Ben McAdoo, a former tight ends coach in Green Bay, asked Evan Engram before practice just to go out and play with speed because "you can think too much playing that position." The 23rd overall pick in this year's draft didn't look back and had his best practice so far as a member of the New York Giants.

The Ole Miss product caught a handful of touchdowns during a heavy red/green zone day, including two in one-on-one drills and three more in seven-on-seven. All-Pro safety Landon Collins, who was covering him on one of them, called for a review after the referee on the field ruled he caught it. Even if it were overturned, four ain't bad for the rookie.

"I knew today, by far, was going to be the hardest one, and I woke up this morning ready to go to work," Engram said. "So I came out here and just did my best to make plays."

QB ELI MANNING

McAdoo circled Saturday's practice on his training camp schedule, saying he'd learn a lot about the team in one of the heaviest days of camp. The franchise quarterback set the tone and had the eye of the tiger from the first period at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. From one-on-one to full team drills, he was throwing darts, including touchdowns to Engram and a few to Odell Beckham Jr.

RT BOBBY HART

In the middle of his third training camp, Bobby Hart is eyeing his first opening-day start. He's held down the right tackle spot since taking over last year, and he's not letting go. The Giants spent a lot of time near the goal line in practice today, and Hart caught the attention of his head coach. "Bobby had a nice day today," McAdoo said. "He's bending well. He's making progress in his technique. [We] had a couple runs today where he stretched the front side well, which is good to see.

Honorable mention: Linebacker Mark Herzlich and safety Eric Pinkins notched interceptions…Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie also had one in one-on-one drills, where fellow cornerback Eli Apple keeps playing with more and more confidence and made some plays…Tight end Matt LaCosse caught a touchdown from Geno Smith in the red zone…Middle linebacker B.J. Goodson made a nice play in coverage on Beckham, forcing him out of bounds in the back of the end zone. This was another one that would have been reviewed…Players have the day off tomorrow before returning to the field on Monday.
