The play of the day went to wide receiver Roger Lewis, who made a tough touchdown grab on a pass from Eli Manning. The quarterback rolled to the right and fired the ball to Lewis, who found an open patch of grass in the front corner of the end zone to drag his toes and make the reception as he fell out of bounds. Those are the types of plays Lewis and the rest of players fighting to make the roster need to make. That goes double for the preseason games, which begin Friday night against the Steelers.

"There is a lot of competition in camp, so the more competition, the more guys are on the bubble," coach Ben McAdoo said. "If you don't know if you are on the bubble, then you are on the bubble. We talked about how your fears can lead to your greatness, your greatness lies within your fears, so embrace them and compete your tail off on Friday night."

WR STERLING SHEPARD

Since the second-year wide receiver rolled his ankle exactly a week ago, Shepard has increased his workload more and more each day. He took his first live reps since the injury scare and looked like the same player who caught 65 passes for 683 yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie.

"He looked good moving around out there today," McAdoo said. "He didn't seem to be limited. We are going to take it slow with him, like we talked about earlier. He likes football and wants to get back on the field. It is important to him."

OT CHAD WHEELER

McAdoo wanted to get a better look at Chad Wheeler today, so he threw the undrafted rookie from USC out with the first team for a few snaps. He got "beat like a drum" on the first play but "hung in there nicely" after that. Wheeler, who is one of the tallest players on the team at 6-foot-7 and 312 pounds, has been backing up left tackle Ereck Flowers, but he got a chance to show what he could do from that position today with the top unit.

"I see a young, talented player," McAdoo said. "He's a physical player, but he's a young player that can bend well. He is working on the fundamental part of the game. Seems to get football."
