8.5 GM Jerry Reese

No news to report. You guys will be the first to know when something happens, but there's no news to report.

Q: Are you close to something happening?

A: We're hopeful.

Q: How accurate are those reports?

A: I haven't seen the reports. What are the reports?

6-90-75

A: I don't know, we'll see.

Q: Could he be signed by today?

Q: We'll see. You guys will be the first to know. If something happens, we'll put it out really fast.

Q: Hypothetically, when it does, is that something that would be something that would be happy was done?

A: I don't know if I understand that question. Say again.

Q: Is it something that when is done, is something you'll be happy that it is done?

A: To get the quarterback extended? Sure. Absolutely.

Q: You feel he's deserving of that kind of commitment from you guys?

A: Sure he [is].

Q: What makes Eli the guy you want?

A: He's a franchise quarterback. He's done everything we ask him to do. He's come in, he takes a lot of flack from you guys and he just keeps going. He does what we ask him to do on the field. He does what we ask him to do off the field. He's a good football player.

Q: Obviously when this gets done, it's going to be an extremely large deal. Are those difficult and complicated to put together or are they easy because you know the size of it?

A: Contracts are contracts. None of them are easy and you always have to make some decisions on what you want to do and what you will do and what you won't do. All of them are different and none of them are easy.

Q: Does the fact that there is an uncertainty during the CBA, how would that impact anything?

A: We're just working on this year. We're working on this year. We're conscience and cognizant about the CBA situation, but we're working on this year. We're concerned about this year.

Q: How important was it to get it done before the season?

A: We'll it's not done. It's got to be done before you can say that, it's not done.

Q: How important would it be to get it done?

A: We're hopeful. If it gets done, we'll be pleased with that, but it's not done. George Young said a long time ago, "A contract is not a contract until your name is on the contract." We don't have anybody's name on any contracts right now. We're hopeful that it will get done. We'll see.

Q: If it does get done, it puts more eyes and pressure on him.

A: Not really. He's used to that. You don't get more pressure than he already has in this market. He knows how to handle pressure and he's done it before. I don't expect to see anything difference in his attitude and work ethic. He works hard. He expects a lot from himself. He knows what his role is here with us. We expect him to continue to do that for a long time.

Q: If it doesn't get done soon, are you guys up for negotiating during the season?

A: We'll do whatever it takes. Sometimes deals get done in the middle of the season. Some deals get done in the later part of the season. Some deals get done a week before the Superbowl. I think we did Tuck the week before the Superbowl. You get deals done when you can get them done.

Q: What is your projected payroll for this year?

A: Projected payroll? What's the cap for this year? We don't save a lot of money, we give it all out.

Q: You guys didn't need any cap relief though?

A: You always want more than you have, but we're fine with our cap.
