Cam Skattebo nominated for FedEx Air & Ground Player of the Week

SKATTEBO-FEDEX-WEEK-6

Running back Cam Skattebo has been nominated for the FedEx Air & Ground Player of the Week Award.

The rookie running back carried the ball 19 times for 98 yards and an impressive three touchdowns in the Giants' Week 6 victory over the Eagles while adding two receptions for an additional 12 yards.

Skattebo became the second rookie running back in franchise history to rush for three touchdowns in a game, joining Charlie Evans, who ran for three touchdowns against the San Diego Chargers back in 1971. Skattebo is the first rookie running back to rush for three scores in a game since Washington's Antonio Gibson did so in 2020.

Of his 98 rushing yards, 79 of them came after contact, according to Next Gen Stats. Skattebo was able to find success on the ground despite the Eagles stacking the box, as 47 of his rushing yards came with eight or more defenders in the box.

The 23-year-old had four explosive runs of 10+ yards, tied for the sixth-most in a game this season. He also forced four missed tackles, according to Pro Football Focus.

Skattebo and quarterback Jaxson Dart accounted for all four rushing touchdowns in Week 6 along with 156 of the team's 172 total rushing yards. The two rookies have brought new energy to the offense over the last few weeks since Dart took over as the starting quarterback and with Skattebo leading the backfield.

"I would just say that they're very competitive individuals who have a lot of pride, toughness and belief in themselves, and I think that's important for any team when you have players like that," coach Brian Daboll said to the media Friday about Dart and Skattebo. "I know they're two rookies. We have a number of other rookies I feel are in a similar situation relative to how they compete and what they do to prepare and how they go out and play. Those two guys, they care about their teammates, they prepare very diligently, and I trust them a lot out on the field."

The other nominees for this week's FedEx Air & Ground Player of the Week are:

  • Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes - 22 of 30 pass attempts (73.3 percent) for 257 yards and three touchdowns with a 133.8 passer rating; also rushed for 31 yards and a touchdown
  • Patriots QB Drake Maye - 18 of 26 pass attempts (69.2 percent) for 261 yards and three touchdowns with a 140.1 passer rating
  • Packers RB Josh Jacobs - Recorded 150 scrimmage yards (93 rushing, 57 receiving) and two rushing touchdowns
  • Panthers RB Rico Dowdle - Recorded 239 scrimmage yards (183 rushing, 56 receiving) and a receiving touchdown
  • Seahawks WR Jaxson Smith-Njigba - Recorded eight receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown

As part of FedEx's expanded partnership with Feeding America and longstanding commitment to addressing food insecurity, Skattebo's honor would also spark a $2,000 donation to the Food Bank for New York City, part of the Feeding America network.

FedEx gives fans the opportunity to vote for some of the best skill position performances each week at NFL.com/FedEx, on the NFL Mobile App, or X (formerly Twitter) at @NFL. Once voting concludes on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET, the two players with the highest votes will be named the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week.
