Coach Coughlin on OTA Practice

Q:  How was Osi?A:  Good, very good.  Very good to have him out there.  We like to have all of our guys working and practicing.  But just having everybody in the meeting rooms now is a very good thing.

Q:  How important is it to have him mentally back, too?A:  No question.  With three OTA's and a mini-camp to go, that is the most important thing.  There is never any question about Osi preparation-wise.  He is a tremendous studier of the opponent.  He knows exactly what his thoughts are going into the game and how the game plan fits.  He will always do that, but to get back into a football frame of mind – and a positive one at that – it is a very good thing.

Q:  What about the elimination of a potential distraction as you get ready for camp?A:  I'll just go as far as to say that I am glad that he is in a great frame of mind and that going forward he can focus completely on football – and the rest of the team as well.

Q:  We are not going to get a chance to talk to you again over your last three OTA's.  Is there anyone who has made a significant jump up in terms of either the mental or physical aspect?A:  I think there are four or five guys that have flashed that would give you some real good thoughts about how they performed out here. For example, I thought Michael Coe had a couple of outstanding plays – a real good interception the other day.  Ramses Barden has had good flash plays out here.  Adrian Tracy has done the same.  Those would be the guys.  A lot of the rookies have – upon opportunity – maybe a flash here and a flash there.  David Wilson, with his conditioning and his quickness and speed, has been there.  I'm encouraged by more and more guys that have had issues in the past – like Ahmad – he has practiced a couple of days.  We have him restricted but he will take the first couple or three plays of a practice and go.  And he actually looks good and he appears to be pretty comfortable.  There has been a lot of those types of things.

Q:  What is the story with Will Beatty?  We haven't seen him out that much.A:  He has a bad back.  That has kind of slowed him down.  He is improving every day.  I don't know that he will make the mini camp.  But he is making good progress.

Q:  Is this an ongoing issue?A:  I hope not, but it is always a concern.  Anybody that has had a bad back realizes that if you get yourself in trouble it is very difficult to get out of trouble in a short amount of time.  It is painful.  But he has worked well at it.  He is in every meeting.  And I'm encouraged by that.  He is not uncomfortable sitting in his meeting room chair.  So he is making good progress.

Q: How is Prince Amukamara coming along?A:  Prince is cleared to do individuals.  So that is a real good sign.  I was hoping, having him cleared to do individual, and a couple of other guys, we might be outside on the grass.  But we were in here because of the weather.

Q:  How is Shaun Rogers?A:  He is here and working.  He has had some issues with an elbow.  So we have held him out of that.  But he is here.  He is in the classroom.

Q:  Do you have any concerns about Martellus Bennett's conditioning or size?A:  It will get there.  He is a guy that obviously has got the size to carry whatever weight we would want him to carry.  He claims that he has made very good strides in the weight room.  And he has.  Really since the end of the season he had been lifting and his size – he played in the 270's last year.  So we will get that under control
Q:  Is that about where you want him – in the 270's again?A:  We will decide on that.

Q:  Your thoughts about going to the White House on Friday.A:  We are excited.  It is always something that we look forward to.  It is a great honor to go to the White House – to be invited by the President of the United States – to have our Super Bowl 46 and World Championship team go and be in the presence of the President and the historic White House. And I'm sure that all of our players and all of our organization will be very excited about going.  We will take great memories from our opportunity to visit with the President.

Q:  Do you expect guys like Manningham and Jacobs?A:  I don't know.  They are certainly invited.  But as you know this new structure has a limited amount of time to get this field work in.  So it would be very difficult, I think, for some of them to make it.  But perhaps we will be surprised.

Q:  What do you know about Andre Brown's situation?A:  I know what you know.  As far as I'm concerned that is private business.  But there is no suspension.  So that is a good thing.
