Coach Tom Coughlin

Q: Got a new player?

A: Got a new player, yep – Shawn Andrews. A nice job by our personnel people. He came in, worked out. He's in excellent shape. He's about 330. We're excited and we welcome Shawn.

Q: Have you decided where you're going to [play him]?

A: No. We've got to do a bunch of work there. We know that he's played guard and we'll see. We'll work him in.

Q: How quickly can he get back into the game?

A: I would think he'll get back relatively quick. He's in good shape. He's in very good shape.

Q: He's a guard?

A: I don't know that, I'm not going to tell you that. He can play tackle or guard. He's been a guard. He's a natural left hander.

Q: Do you tell people he's a good young prospect?

A: You've got to give the personnel people some credit. They've been tracking the guy. You know he's in excellent shape, starting to work out, very motivated.

Q: What led you to believe that he's mentally in the right spot?

A: Well he's been here for a couple of days and he's had interviews with basically everybody. He's been to dinner with our personnel people – Jerry Reese. So people have spent a lot of time with him. I spent a good half hour with him yesterday. The quality of the football player that I remember from a couple of years ago is outstanding. Knowing that he went through some issues – he had the back and some other issues that he had to deal with. But, sensing now that he really is motivated and that he really wants to play. He's just a pleasant young man to visit with. He does indicate to you the kind of desire that he has to get back in the game.

Q: You said Chris Snee was improving?

A: Yes.

Q: Richie is apparently improving, still practicing?

A: Yes.

Q: This doesn't say anything about them or what you think about their short term and long term?

A: No, not at all. He's just another quality football player that helps us.

Q: Richie is not going to play Saturday?

A: Richie is not going to play, No. They let him practice, but let's face it, he never really stuck it in there and did anything that would cause him to do any further damage. He's got a couple of weeks. I think he can perhaps go next week.

Q: As you leave Albany, how close are you to where you hope to be?

A: I think that we made some progress in terms of how we introduced our schemes – defensively, a little bit better than offensively. We are a multiple formation tight end team when we have the flexibility. We have not had that so we haven't been in many formations. Therefore, we are behind in that. But it's good to see Kevin (Boss) out here, Travis (Beckum) out here. They give us an opportunity in another setting, another week to get started on some of that stuff that we're behind on. We haven't had a lot of people work together with any kind of continuity and we need that. Let's face it, we need it. We need it with Eli. We need it with the receivers, we need the tight ends. We like to have the offensive line all work together. I think we have a chance to do a little bit more of that next week.

Q: Eli went to get his stitches…

A: He had further tests to look at stitches and decide how they're going to do that, if they're going to adjust that at all.

Q: Who's not going to play Saturday?

A: I just said Snee and Seubert won't play.

Q: Michael Johnson?

A: No.

Q: Barden?

A: No.

Q: Beckum?

A: Beckum will play.

Q: Boss?

A: Boss will play. First time out though.

Q: Are all the wide receivers playing?

A: Barden won't.

Q: Steve Smith?

A: Yes.

Q: Do you plan to get Cruz in the return game this week?

A: Yes.

Q: Both?

A: Yes.

Q: Will you get Tim Brown in the return game also?

A: I hope to.

Q: Did you get word on Sorgi?

A: I really didn't. I think the release of information, which did not come from us, kind of answered all your questions. There's not much more I can add.

Q: Tempo and sense of urgency were two things you stressed about camp…

A: It's picking up, but there's more to go. But it picked up this week and of course, there's always a sense of urgency. But the tempo was a little better yesterday. We have to keep developing that. We're not where we need to be with either. I like it a little faster than it is right now.

Q: Just to clarify, the information out there about Sorgi…

A: You're asking the wrong guy. You've got to ask the medical people. Our feelings are the same. He does have a couple of weeks, maybe three weeks.

Q: What about Randolph? Could we see him tomorrow?

A: Yeah, you could.

Q: Do you think he's prepared enough?

A: He knows a few plays and that's what he was there for. He remembered most of the cadence which was a good thing. I would tell you that if there was an opportunity, that perhaps I think that he's had enough to run a few things and do a few things.
