Defensive Coordinator Perry Fewell

**

Q: Thoughts on your defense in Week 1?**A: I thought we played good ball in the first half, but then in the second half I didn't think we played together as a defensive football team. I thought we, for whatever reason, didn't come together and play together, and that was the most disappointing part of it.

Q: Do you believe your defense understands how to fix these problems?A: Oh yeah. We just didn't play together football last week. Tony (Romo) played really good. He really played good. We helped him because we didn't play as well as we could, we took some chances and did some things that we shouldn't have done, and we'll have better discipline, I believe, this week on defense, and we'll play together better this week since we've seen 60 minutes on tape as a first unit.

Q: What fuels the guys to try and make plays that they're not supposed to?A: They're trying hard; opening game jitters, they come out, they want to make a play, they want to make an impact on the game, they think that they see something that they've seen on film, or what have you, and they go for it. They might not make the right decision, those things, that's what happens, and when you try to correct them and tell them on the sideline, sometimes they have something cemented in their mind that they just can't get out.

Q: Was it what happened up front that caused that?A: It was up front, in the middle, and in the back. All three levels in the second half, we just didn't play team football.

Q: Were you shocked to see zero sacks from JPP, Tuck and Osi?A: Oh yeah, definitely. The no hits on the quarterback, we take a lot of pride in that, legal hits on the quarterback. That was definitely an eye-opener for me.

Q: Do you think fatigue played a role at all?A: No, as I looked at us on the sideline, they were lathered up, but they were ready to go.

Q: What is your take on the missed holding penalties against Dallas?A: You have to play the game. You can't officiate the game; it's our job to play the game. If somebody holds me, then I am going to get him off me. My take is, "Let's get his (butt) off of me." Excuse my French.

Q: Do you expect to have all of your cornerbacks back this week?A: You know, that's a great question. I can't answer that question right now. Prince (Amukamara) has practiced this week. Michael (Coe) has practiced this week. It will be a game day thing. We'll have to talk to the trainers and Tom (Coughlin) will have to make that call. We're practicing with all hands on deck right now, but again, we have another day of practice, so you never know what comes out of this third day of practice.

Q: Would you consider using Rolle as the nickel corner or a three-safety alignment?A: Oh yeah, that's definitely always on our plate, or on our menu. We could definitely do that, yes.

Q: What were your thoughts on Corey Webster's performance?A: It wasn't his best football game. He's one of our more solid defenders who we count on to make plays for us; it was not his best ball game for us. We'll look for him to bounce back like he always has.
