Eisen's Mailbag: Giants injury updates

**

Is there any update on Jon Beason's status, as well as Mario Manningham and John Jerry?** -Jeremy

Dear Jeremy:
Beason is in camp, but he is not practicing. It's uncertain when he will return to the field, but he continues to believe he will be ready to play on opening night, Sept. 8, in Detroit. But he won't return to the field until his foot is strong and pain free. Manningham and Jerry are practicing, though on a limited basis. Manningham made a nice catch in practice yesterday and Jerry is sharing reps at right guard with Brandon Mosley.

Do you think that the Giants will sign Jermichael Finley? I feel kind of nervous going into a season without a proven tight end. What do you think?
-Michael

Dear Michael:
Surely you have more important things to worry about than the Giants' tight ends. But since you are concerned…no, I strongly doubt the Giants will sign Finley (who I believe has been the subject of more Mailbag inquiries than any player who has never been a Giant). Although the Giants have no big-name tight ends, they like the players they have at that position. Jerry Reese has consistently said he believes Adrien Robinson and Larry Donnell will be good players. The Giants have three other talented tight ends in camp. Before you get too nervous, let's give them a chance to show what they can do.

Which position group needs the most work heading into Week One of the season?
-Marcus

Dear Marcus:
If you asked this of Tom Coughlin, he would say all of them. I wouldn't phrase the question, "needs the most work." I think the position group that bears watching is running back. Based on the very early camp returns, Rashad Jennings, David Wilson and rookie Andre Williams could all be worthy of significant roles. How the coaches divide up the workload will likely take several weeks to decide.
