Giants Daily Transcripts

Head Coach Tom Coughlin

Q: Can you give us an update on Steve Smith?
A: He's going to be out of the game and it's going to be one of those deals hopefully week to week and we'll see.

Q: What were the results of his tests?
A: It's a partial pec and he just has to rehab, but whatever the basis of it is, he has to go through a process of healing, so I'm not sure exactly how long.

Q: A partial tear?
A: A partial tear.

Q: It won't require surgery?
A: No.

Q: How does that change things for you?
A: Well, obviously it gives other people an opportunity to go – Ramses and Duke both have to be ready to go. They did get most of the work yesterday and all of the work today.

Q: Do they look like they've stepped up?
A: Ramses has been involved all the way through. Duke has had his plays and they'll get more now.

Q: Where does Beckum fit into that?
A: Beckum still has those plays as the second tight end.

Q: Could you use him in that slot?
A: Well, you could, but right now that wouldn't be necessary.

Q: Brandon was bashing himself after this game for his judgment in the open field.
A: Yes.

Q: Is that accurate?
A: Yeah, he should be. Sure. You're always the most difficult, the most tough on yourself. He's just like that because he should have tried to run over the tackler.

Q: What about Petrus and Boothe?
A: They've done well. They had a good week, so we'll see how that goes.

Q: Have you made a decision on who will start at left guard?
A: Probably game time.

Q: Is the goal to have your receivers be able to shuffle around like the offensive line?
A: That's the idea. They can play – a guy like Ramses can play all three and most of them at least can play two.

Q: Is Manningham ready for a bigger role?
A: Sure. Sure, he is.

Q: Is there any particular reason that Shawn Andrews is running?
A: Probably just conditioning.

Q: Is that a self-motivated thing?
A: Yes. Maybe he wants to stay out here in the sunshine.

Q: Mario initially had some issues learning his routes, etc. Sounds like everyone has been saying that he's gotten a lot better at that.
A: He played well last week.

Q: The Cowboys came back on you last time and scored some points with Kitna. Do you use that as a teaching tool?
A: Well, we thoroughly covered the game and talked about what shouldn't have happened if that's what you mean, yeah, and how it should have ended and so on and so forth, but there isn't any question in our minds about the capability of this team, so really everything was spelled out for this team based on our experiences with the way in which the traditional games have gone.

Q: Are there any changes to Wilkinson's cast?
A: As it goes along, there will be. Not on the practice field. I don't think you'll ever see that.

Q: Did you hear about the allegations against Nicks?
A: No. I don't know anything about this.

Q: Do you have any general time frame on Smith?
A: You know, if I give it to you, they say a limited amount of time, but not necessarily right away or this week or next week. I won't know until he starts rehabbing. He hasn't had much swelling, some discomfort, so a lot of it in the beginning will probably be preventative to make sure that there's no further injury and then to strengthen and go forward.

Q: Not as bad as it could have been.
A: Thank goodness for that.

Q: Did Beatty take any sort of step back?
A: Beatty? No. He actually did more. Each day he's done more.

Q: He's come along faster than you thought?
A: No. Not really. Well, this day, yeah. This week. He's done a lot more I think than we thought he would be able to do.

Q: Any chance of him dressing?
A: There's always a chance.

Q: Did Smith have an MRI yesterday?
A: He had it all, yeah.
