The New York Giants have selected Mr. Zach Naszimento of Weehawken High School (Weehawken, NJ) as "The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week" for the week of November 12, 2012. Coach Naszimento and the Weehawken Indians are entering the first round of the playoffs this Friday against the Dunellen Destroyers.
In recognition of Coach Naszimento's success and commitment, he will receive a certificate of recognition signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin and a $1,000 check will be granted to the Indians football program. Coach Naszimento will be acknowledged by a stadium announcement when the Giants host the Green Bay Packers on November 25th and an announcement will also be posted on the Giants website, www.giants.com.
The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week Award is part of the Giants' continuing effort to promote youth football. The Giants elected to name the award in memory of former Union High School (NJ) coach, Lou Rettino, for his fine commitment to the game of football, his community and the betterment of his athletes' lives.
Each week during the 2012 high school football season, the Giants will select one area high school head coach as the Coach of the Week winner. The selection is based on the coach's continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and his overall community involvement. At the conclusion of the 2012 season, the Giants will choose a Coach of the Year. That coach will receive $2,000 for their school's football program. They will also be invited to attend a dinner hosted by the Giants.
Coach Naszimento is in his second year at Weehawken High School as both the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. He has been a teacher and coach for the past twelve years within the Weehawken and Union City school districts. During his tenure as a coach, he has worked for coaching legends such as Ed Stinson at Queen of Peace High School and Mike Miello at Hackensack High School. Coach Naszimento believes that being a football coach is the best way to teach life lessons that might not otherwise be taught within a classroom setting.
Coach Naszimento also coaches with his father, Bruce Naszimento who serves as an assistant offensive coach at Weehawken High School. Bruce was the Head Coach at Emerson High School for many years in Union City and more recently coached at Secaucus High School prior to joining Zach at Weehawken. Bruce has over 40 years of coaching experience.
Coach Naszimento played high school football at Secaucus High School. He was a four year starter and was named 1st Team All State Associated Press for the 1995 season. Coach Naszimento went on to the University of Cincinnati on a football scholarship.
Coach Naszimento is married to his wife, Dana and has a nine year old son named Zachary and an eight year old daughter named Ava. When Coach Naszimento is not teaching or coaching, he loves being with his family.
