Giants preseason opponents announced

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - The Giants' preseason schedule will include only AFC opponents for the third consecutive year.

The NFL today released each team's preseason opponents, and the Giants will face two newcomers and two longtime foes in August and the first week of September. They will travel to Cincinnati and New England and host Jacksonville and the Jets.

Preseason Week 1: Giants at Bengals | Friday, Aug. 14 @ 7:30 PM ET
Preseason Week 2: Giants vs. Jaguars | Saturday, Aug. 22 @ 7:30 PM ET
Preseason Week 3: Giants vs. Jets (MetLife Bowl) | Saturday, Aug. 29 @ 7 PM ET
Preseason Week 4: Giants at Patriots | Thursday, Sep. 3 @ 7:30 PM ET

They will open against the Bengals in Cincinnati on Friday, Aug. 14, at 7:30 p.m. It is the teams' first preseason meeting since 1998 and fourth overall. The Giants won the previous three games, in Giants Stadium in 1992 and '98 and in Cincinnati in 1993.

The Giants will host the Jacksonville Jaguars in MetLife Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m. The Jaguars lead the preseason series, 4-3.

On Saturday, Aug. 29, the Giants will host the Jets in the annual MetLife Bowl beginning at 7 p.m.. The teams will meet in the preseason for the 47th consecutive summer since the series began in 1969. The Giants won their 2014 meeting, 35-24. They trail in the preseason series, 24-21-1, with the tie coming in 1972.

The Giants will visit the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots in their preseason finale on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. This will be the 11th consecutive year the two teams will close the preseason by facing one another. The Giants lead the preseason series, 15-9.

The Giants are 36-26-3 in preseason openers since 1950.

The Jaguars will visit MetLife Stadium in preseason Week 2 (August 20-24). The teams last faced each other in the preseason in 2012, when the Jaguars won in Jacksonville, 32-31. The Jaguars lead the preseason series, 4-3. Tom Coughlin has coached in all seven games. The teams squared off in six consecutive preseasons from 1996-2001, when Coughlin was Jacksonville's head coach.

In Preseason Week 3 (August 27-30), the Giants and Jets will square off for the 47th consecutive summer since the series began in 1969. The Giants won their 2014 meeting, 35-24. They trail in the preseason series, 24-21-1, with the tie coming in 1972.

teams will close the preseason by facing one another. The Giants won last year in MetLife, 16-13, and lead the preseason series, 15-9. The two teams first met in the preseason in 1971.

The Giants will host the Jets and Patriots in the regular season.

The Giants were 5-0 in the preseason in 2014, when they opened against Buffalo in the annual Hall of Fame Game. It was their first perfect preseason since they were 4-0 in 2006 and their first unblemished summer of more than four games since they were 5-0 in 1985.

They are 24-21 in 11 preseasons with Coughlin as head coach.
