Boswell will handle the kicking duties tomorrow night in the preseason finale at New England in place of veteran Josh Brown, who suffered a bruised leg two weeks ago when he made a tackle in the third quarter against Jacksonville.

The Giants had an available spot after on the 75-man roster after trimming their roster to 74 yesterday afternoon.

Here are five things you need to know about Chris Boswell:

  1. Boswell, who was in the Giants' training camp until his release on Aug. 16, will handle kicking duties in Thursday's preseason finale against the Patriots after Josh Brown suffered a bruised leg two weeks ago while making a tackle in the Jaguars game.
  1. Originally undrafted out of Rice, Boswell signed as a rookie free agent with the Houston Texans but was released prior to the start of the 2014 season. He was later added to their practice squad and released a week later on Sept. 30.
  1. In four preseason games with Houston in 2014, Boswell made both of his field goal attempts from 33 and 44 yards. He averaged 63.5 yards on 10 kickoffs with two touchbacks. Boswell also punted 15 times, averaging 44.3 yards per attempt while landing six inside the 20-yard line.
  1. Boswell, 6-2 and 185 pounds, was one of the top long distance kickers in the country at Rice, where he became the second player in school history to top 300 career points. He finished just two points shy of the Rice career scoring record. He connected on 14 kicks from 50 yards or more during his college career, including three from 55-plus yards.
  1. A native of Keller, Texas, Boswell prepped at Fossil Ridge High School and was the fifth-ranked kicker in the country by Rivals.com. He was named to the Associated Press All-State first team and to the Texas Sportswriters Association Class 5A All-State second team as a senior. Boswell was also selected to play in the 2009 US Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio.
