East Rutherford, N.J. -- The Giants today released safety Brandon Meriweather.

An eight-year veteran, Meriweather joined the Giants on Aug. 16, the same day rookie safety Mykkele Thompson was placed on injured reserve with a torn Achilles tendon. He started the season's first 11 games before missing the last two with a knee injury. Meriweather's totals included 53 tackles (38 solo), two interceptions and seven passes defensed.

His departure leaves the Giants with three safeties in Landon Collins, Craig Dahl and Cooper Taylor.
