Davis, 6-7 and 265 pounds, played his first five seasons for the Chicago Bears. He is the 14th veteran free agent who played for another team last year to sign with the Giants.

The Giants also signed wide receiver Travis Harvey, who has no NFL experience.

Davis has played in 95 regular-season games with 39 starts and in four postseason games with one start. An outstanding blocker, he has 50 receptions for 561 yards (11.2-yard avg.) and 12 touchdowns in the regular season and two catches for 42 yards and a score in the postseason.

The Seahawks signed Davis on Sept. 13, three days after their season-opening victory at Carolina. Davis played in the final 15 games with four starts and caught three passes for 32 yards – two vs. Jacksonville on Sept. 22 and a one-yard touchdown at Arizona on Oct. 17.

In the playoffs, he played as a reserve in the divisional round, started the NFC Championship Game vs. San Francisco and was inactive for Seattle's victory over Denver in Super Bowl XLVIII in MetLife Stadium. Davis did not have a postseason reception.

Davis entered the NFL as a fifth round draft choice (158th overall selection) by the Bears from Michigan State in 2008. He played in all 80 regular-season games, plus two playoff games, in his five years in Chicago. In 2010, he caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Jay Cutler in an NFC Divisional Playoff game victory over the Seahawks.

Davis started 15 games in both 2011 and 2012. In 2011, he had 18 receptions for 206 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. The following season, he posted career-best totals of 19 catches for 229 yards and scored twice.

A native of Adrian, Michigan, Davis had 60 catches in 43 career games at Michigan State.

Davis is the fourth tight end on the Giants' roster, joining Adrien Robinson, Larry Donnell and Daniel Fells.

*Harvey, 6-2 and 183 pounds, was signed as a rookie free agent by the Tennessee Titans last year. He was released in training camp. In two seasons at Florida A&M, Harvey played in 12 games with 10 starts and totaled 66 receptions for 818 yards and seven touchdowns. Most of that production was in his senior year (64 catches, 808 yards, all seven scores). He did not play football as a freshman or sophomore.
