The Giants return to the practice field on Tuesday for the start of voluntary minicamp

Before the Giants look to their future, they will see what they have presently.

It is a busy week at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. Beginning Tuesday, the team will hold a voluntary veteran minicamp that takes us up to draft day on Thursday. New head coaches are entitled to conduct an additional minicamp, and this year the Giants are one of seven clubs that fit the bill.

Under Pat Shurmur, the Giants are moving into the next phase of their nine-week voluntary offseason workout program.

Phase 1 consisted of the first two weeks of the program with activities limited to strength and conditioning and physical rehabilitation only.

Phase 2 is the next three weeks of the program. On-field workouts may include individual player instruction and drills, as well as the offense and defense working separately. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted.

Phase 3 will be the final four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, or "OTAs". No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted. This week's voluntary minicamp operates under Phase 3 rules.

The big name to watch this week is Davis Webb, the sophomore quarterback itching for reps before the Giants decide whether to take a quarterback with the second overall pick. This has been hyped as a "showcase" for the former third-round draft pick, but how much of an effect will this have on the draft?

"Nothing is going to totally change the top of the board," general manager Dave Gettleman said. "Seeing Davis … is going to be fun for us because he's a great kid, he works his fanny off, he has been following Eli [Manning] around like a little puppy dog since he walked in the door and it will be a neat opportunity to see him play. Yeah, sure, everything affects the board. I'd be lying if I said no, but at the end of the day, I'm looking forward to it."

Accompanying the three days of practices will be daily media availability with Shurmur as well as players. Here are the key remaining dates of the Giants' offseason:

Voluntary Minicamp: April 24-26
NFL Draft: April 26-28
Rookie Minicamp: May 11-12
OTA Offseason Workouts: May 21-22, May 24, May 29-31, June 4-7
Mandatory Minicamp: **June 12-14

The Giants have returned to the Quest Diagnostics Training Center to begin offseason workouts!
