Saturday's game is presented by MetLife, the official insurance company of the New York Giants.
MetLife will be unveiling the two winning art designs from MetLife's Workforce Mural contest. The contest, which ran from September to December 2020, was created to honor and celebrate essential workers in the Tri-State area, from first-responders to grocery and delivery workers to small business owners and local restaurants, that continued to support their communities throughout the pandemic. The two art pieces will be featured as large-scale murals on display in the MetLife West Hall.
The Giants host the cross-town New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in the team's preseason opener.
This game marks the beginning of Head Coach Joe Judge's second season with Big Blue. Judge and the Giants ended 2020 with a 6-10 record, which was good enough for a second place finish in the NFC East. Saturday night's contest will be the first preseason action for the Giants in nearly two years, as New York defeated the New England Patriots in Foxborough, 31-29, on August 29th, 2019.
The last time the Giants and Jets squared off was earlier in the 2019 preseason, where the Giants captured a 31-22 win.
2020 USA Football Heart of a Giant
The New York Giants will be recognizing the finalists from our 2020 USA Football Heart of a Giant, presented by Hospital for Special Surgery, program. Each of these young men have an unmatched passion for the game of football while also displaying amazing character and leadership in their community. We will have a special moment to recognize the Heart of a Giant winner, Josue Gomez of Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne, NJ. Josue was honored for his unique perseverance, as he overcame significant obstacles during high school while achieving a 3.7 GPA, displaying tremendous leadership qualities, and excelling in football, wrestling, and track – all of which he had not played until high school. Gomez received a trophy presented by Hospital for Special Surgery and the New York Giants in addition to a $5,000 equipment grant for his high school football program.
In honor of the NFL Play Football initiative, a program that provides young athletes the opportunity to engage with the game of football, we will be honoring our 2019 Coach of the Week honorees for their commitment to the community and contributions to the game of football. Additionally, we have donated over 2,500 tickets to their programs and local youth football programs in the area.
