John Mara Named Chairman of NFL's Management Council Executive Committee

Giants President and Chief Executive Officer John Mara has been appointed the chairman of the Management Council Executive Committee/Labor and been appointed to a new committee by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Mara succeeds Jerry Richardson of the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen as committee chairman.

In addition, Mara has been appointed to the NFL's new committee on health and medical issues that will be chaired by San Francisco 49ers owner John York. The Health and Safety Advisory Committee includes Mara, Jerry Jones, Rich McKay and Mark Murphy

"Our committee structure has been very important and beneficial to the NFL over the years," Goodell said. "It has allowed us to address and study complex issues in depth and present our clubs with comprehensive information and thoughtful recommendations."

Mara was one of several new committee chairs appointed by the commissioner. The list includes the following:

            Finance (Bob McNair)

            Investment (Wayne Weaver) 

            Stadium (Art Rooney)

            Business Ventures (Dean Spanos)

            Super Bowl Advisory (Katie Blackburn)

            International (Clark Hunt)

            Management Council Executive Committee/Labor (John Mara)

            Hall of Fame (Jerry Jones)

In addition to Bowlen and Richardson (Labor and Stadium), Tom Benson (Finance), Bob McNair (Investment), Wayne Weaver (Business Ventures), Mike McCaskey (Super Bowl Advisory and Hall of Fame), and John York (International) are stepping down as chairs of those respective committees.

Committee chairs that will continue in those roles include Robert Kraft (Broadcast), Rich McKay (Competition), Arthur Blank (Audit and Compensation), Rita LeBlanc (Employee Benefits), Michael Bidwill (Stadium Security and Fan Conduct), Jerry Jones (NFL Network), Jonathan Kraft and Dan Snyder (Digital Media), Legislative (Jim Irsay), and Katie Blackburn (Workplace Diversity).

Giants Chairman Steve Tisch serves on the league's Stadium and NFL Network committees, while General Manager Jerry Reese is a member of the General Managers Advisory Committee. In addition to chairing the Management Council Executive Committee and serving on the Health and Safety Advisory Committee, Mara will continue to be a member of the Competition and Workplace Diversity committees.
