Make the Case: First-round options for Giants

MAYE-NABERS-MTC

"Make the Case" is officially back on Giants.com for the 2024 NFL Draft.

In this series, we look at projections provided by analysts and then ask you, the fans, to weigh in on what the Giants should do in the draft.

With just over a week to go, we're going to take a look into what the experts think the Giants might do with their top pick in this year's draft.

Let's break down what Pro Football Focus' Nathan Jahnke and The Athletic's Dane Brugler believe the Giants might do with their first-round pick.

Pick: Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina

Height: 6-foot-4 | Weight: 223

2023 Stats: 12 games, 3,608 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 63.3 completion percentage; 112 rushing attempts for 449 yards (4.0 avg.) and 9 touchdowns

Accolades: ACC Player of the Year (2022), ACC Offensive Player of the Year (2022), ACC Rookie of the Year (2022), First-Team All-ACC (2022), Second-Team All-ACC (2023)

"Maye has been compared to Josh Allen, so who better to coach Maye than Allen's former offensive coordinator Brian Daboll?"

Additional analysis from NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah: "Maye has prototypical size, athleticism and arm strength. He has quick feet and quick hands, but his delivery can get long at times. He's a gifted thrower who drives the ball without much foot space in the pocket (including with defenders hanging on him)... Overall, Maye has some things to clean up, but he has every ingredient to be a top-tier starter at the game's most important position."

Pick: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

Height: 6-foot-0 | Weight: 200

2023 Stats: 89 receptions for 1,569 yards (17.6 avg.) and 14 touchdowns. Led the nation in receiving yards per game (120.7), 20-plus yard plays (34) and 30-plus yard plays (17)

Accolades: Unanimous All-American (2023), First-Team All-SEC (2023)

"I think the Giants will examine their trade-up options for a quarterback, but in this scenario, they stay put and add the true premier weapon they have been missing. Nabers would have been my No. 1 overall prospect in each of the last two draft classes."

Additional analysis from NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah: "Nabers is a dynamic receiver with outstanding competitiveness and production. He explodes off the line in his release, creating immediate separation. He sets up defenders before snapping off his route... Overall, Nabers is an electric playmaker who reminds me of DJ Moore with the ball in his hands."
