Giants release official 2023 schedule

2023-NFL-SCHEDULE

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Five prime time games, including the opener at home against Dallas that will begin a stretch of four in the first six weeks, a three-game November road trip and two meetings in the season's final three weeks with defending NFC champion Philadelphia, highlight the Giants' 2023 schedule.

Other notable nuggets from Brian Daboll's second season are an early two-game west coast trip, a home game against the Jets, their first visit to Las Vegas and a late afternoon road game against the Eagles in the Giants' first-ever Christmas Day game.

The increased prime time exposure is a result of the Giants' success in Daboll's first season, when they were 9-7-1 and won an NFC Wild Card Game. The Giants' five night games are their highest total since they played five in 2016.

Four of the first six games will be on the road and the Giants will not play their first Sunday afternoon home game until Oct. 22.

In the third season since the league adopted a 17-game schedule in 2021, NFC teams will play eight home games and nine on the road.

The NFC East will face the NFC West and the AFC East this season. Because they finished third in the division, the Giants will host the third-place team from the NFC North (the Green Bay Packers) and visit the third-place teams from the NFC South (the New Orleans Saints) and the AFC West (the Las Vegas Raiders, the 17th game).

In addition to home-and-home series with NFC East rivals Dallas, Philadelphia and Washington, the Giants will also host the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, the Jets, and the Packers. They will play road games against the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, the Saints, and the Raiders.

The Giants will begin their 99th season on Sunday night, Sept. 10, against the Cowboys in MetLife Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m., eastern time. It will be their seventh opener against Dallas in the last 12 seasons, their first since 2019 and just the second at home; they began the 2012 season in MetLife Stadium vs. the Cowboys.

After the opener, the Giants will play four of their next five games on the road, including the next two within five days in the Pacific time zone. They will visit the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 4:05 p.m. and stay out West before visiting the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 8:15 p.m.

The Giants will return home to play their third night game in the first four weeks when they host the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, Oct. 2 at 8:15 p.m.

That will be followed by another two away trips that includes a prime-time game. The Giants will visit the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m., followed a week later by their second AFC East road game, at Buffalo on Oct. 15 at 8:20 p.m.

The Giants will then play consecutive home games for the first time when they host the Washington Commanders on Oct. 22 and the Jets on Oct. 29, both at 1 p.m.

They will be traveling the first three weeks of November. Their first three-game road trip since 2009 will begin on Sunday, Nov. 5 vs. the Raiders in Las Vegas and continue a week later with a rematch against the Cowboys in Dallas. Both games are scheduled for 4:25 p.m. The Giants will play a second consecutive division road game when they face the Commanders in Washington on Nov. 19 at 1 p.m.

The Giants will conclude Thanksgiving weekend by hosting the New England Patriots on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 1 p.m.

That will be followed by the Giants' bye in Week 13 (Sunday, Dec. 3). It is the Giants' latest bye since 2001, when they were also off in Week 13 (Sunday, Dec. 2).

The break will extend an extra day, because the Giants won't return to the field until Monday night, Dec. 11, when they host the Green Bay Packers in MetLife Stadium at 8:15 p.m.

Once again, a home Monday night game will be followed by a trip south for a game the following Sunday. On Dec. 17, the Giants will face the Saints in New Orleans at 1 p.m.

The Giants will play their second Monday game in two weeks and third of the season when they face the Eagles in Lincoln Financial Field on Dec. 25 at 4:30 p.m. Though they have played seven times on Dec. 24 and six on Dec. 26, this will be the Giants' Christmas debut.

After playing nine of their first 15 games on the road, the Giants will end the season with a pair of home games. They will host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Dec. 31 at 1 p.m. and the Eagles on Jan. 6 or 7. Dates and kickoff times for Week 18 games will be announced late in the season.

Some highlights from the Giants' 2023 schedule:

*The Giants will face the Bills for the first time since general manager Joe Schoen (five years as assistant general manager) and coach Brian Daboll (four seasons as offensive coordinator) left Buffalo in 2022 for their present positions.

*The Giants will play eight games against 2022 playoff teams: Philadelphia and Dallas twice apiece and one each against San Francisco, Seattle, Buffalo, and Miami.

*Arizona (Jonathan Gannon) is the only team with a first-year head coach the Giants will face this season.

*The Giants will play their first Sunday night season opener since 2017, when they played at Dallas. It will be their first season-opening home Sunday night game since Sept. 10, 2006, when they hosted Indianapolis in the first meeting of Eli and Peyton Manning. They opened at home in prime time as defending Super Bowl champions in 2008, but that game was played on a Thursday night.

*The Giants are 23-31-1 on Sunday night, including 11-13 at home and 12-18-1 on the road. They are 6-8 vs. the Cowboys on Sunday night, including 3-2 at home. The 14 meetings between the Giants and Cowboys are the most ever on Sunday Night Football.

*The Giants' home game vs. Dallas will be played at night in September for the second straight season. Last year, they hosted the Cowboys on Monday night, Sept. 26.

*The Giants' games vs. Dallas and at Buffalo make this the first time since 2018 the Giants are scheduled prior to the season for a Sunday night game. They were flexed to Sunday Night Football at home vs. Cleveland in 2020 and at Washington last Dec. 18.

*The Giants will play three consecutive NFC West opponents – Arizona, San Francisco and Seattle – in Weeks 2-4.

*The Giants will host two Monday night games in the same season for the second time in four years and the second time in the 54-year history of Monday Night Football. In 2020, the Giants opened at home against Pittsburgh and later faced Tampa Bay on Monday nights.

*The Giants are 25-46-1 on Monday night, including 9-14 at home. They have lost seven consecutive and nine of their last 10 Monday night games. They last won in 2018 in San Francisco.

*When the Giants visit Las Vegas, Dallas, and Washington in November, it will be their first three-game road trip since Sept. 20-Oct. 4, 2009, when they defeated Dallas, Tampa Bay, and Kansas City.

*The Giants will make their first ever visit to Las Vegas, where they will face the Raiders in Allegiant Stadium, the site of Super Bowl LVIII. Tight end Darren Waller, obtained in a trade in March, will face the Raiders team with whom he spent the previous five seasons.

*The games against the Cowboys and Commanders will be the Giants' first consecutive road division games since they played the final two games of the 2016 season in Philadelphia and Washington.

*The Giants will play their final two regular-season games at home for the first time since 1996, when they hosted New Orleans and New England. In 2011, they played their final two games in MetLife Stadium, but the first was a Jets home game.

*The Giants' season finale will be a home game for the sixth time in seven years (their Week 18 game last season was in Philadelphia).

*The Giants lost their last seven games played on Thursday, including last Thanksgiving in Dallas, and are 15-14-3 overall. Their last Thursday victory was on Sept. 24, 2015, 32-21 vs. Washington. The Giants most recently won a Thursday road game on Sept. 25, 2014, a 45-14 triumph in Washington.

*The Giants will play against several players from their 2022 team, including safety Julian Love (Seattle), offensive lineman Nick Gates (Washington) and center Jon Feliciano (San Francisco).

*Notable players the Giants will face in 2023 include Aaron Rodgers, whom the Jets acquired in a much-publicized trade after he played 18 seasons in Green Bay; Miami's Tua Tagovailoa, who had an NFL-best 105.5 passer rating last season; Las Vegas' Josh Jacobs, who rushed for a league-high 1,653 yards; Philadelphia's Jalen Hurts, who threw 22 touchdown passes, ran for 13 scores and led the Eagles to the Super Bowl; Miami's Tyreek Hill, who was second in the league with 119 catches; and San Francisco's Nick Bosa, who led the NFL with 18.5 sacks.

*The Sept. 17 game in Arizona will be the first professional meeting of the Ojulari brothers – Giants third-year pro Azeez, who had 13.5 sacks in his first two Giants seasons, and younger brother and fellow edge rusher BJ, who was the Cardinals' second-round selection in last month's NFL Draft.

*The Giants do not play defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City but their meetings with the Eagles will be the first against the loser of that game for the first time since 2021 – when they played the Chiefs. They Giants are 6-21 in regular-season games against Super Bowl losers (plus 1-0 in the postseason). Their last victory against a team that lost the previous Super Bowl was in Chicago in 2007.

*The Giants' preseason opponents were also revealed and for the first time since 2004, the list does not include New England.

Since the increase in regular season games to 17, each team plays three preseason games. The Giants' preseason foes (dates and times will be announced in the future):

  • Week 1 at Detroit
  • Week 2 vs. Carolina
  • Week 3 vs. the Jets

*The Giants and Lions last met in the preseason on Aug. 17, 2018, when the Giants won in Ford Field, 30-17. That was the teams' second preseason meeting since 1966.

From 1951-66, the Giants and Lions clashed on 13 occasions in the preseason – five times in Detroit, three times in Cleveland, twice apiece in Dallas and New Haven, and once in Norman, Okla. The Lions lead the preseason series, 9-5-1.

*The Giants most recently faced Carolina in the preseason in 2011. The Panthers lead the preseason series, 6-2.

*The Giants faced the Jets in 51 consecutive summers (1969-2019) before the NFL canceled the 2020 preseason due to the pandemic. The Jets have won the two games since the series resumed in 2021 and lead the series, 27-25-1. The tie was in 1972.

A closer look at the Giants' 2023 schedule. All times eastern. (*Game subject to flex scheduling):

Dallas Cowboys

MetLife Stadium

Sunday, Sept. 10, 8:20 p.m., NBC

Week 10

AT&T Stadium

Sunday, Nov. 12, 4:25 p.m., FOX

Dallas' 2022 record: 12-5, NFC East second place; fifth playoff seed

Series Record: Regular season: Giants trail, 73-46-2; Postseason: Giants lead, 1-0

Dallas swept the season series in 2022 for the fifth time in six seasons and has won 11 of the last 12 games between the teams. On Monday night, Sept. 26 in MetLife Stadium, the Cowboys defeated the home team, 23-16, with backup Cooper Rush at quarterback. They also took the rematch on Thanksgiving Day in Dallas, 28-20. Ezekiel Elliott, who scored a touchdown in each game, was cut in the offseason, and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore was fired. The Giants have swept the season series 13 times, while Dallas has 25 series sweeps. The Giants have lost six consecutive games in AT&T Stadium, where they are 5-9 overall. The Cowboys are 7-6 vs. the Giants in MetLife Stadium.

*The Giants are 51-42-5 in season openers, 17-15 in season opening home games, 51-44-3 in home openers and 4-9 in MetLife Stadium openers.

Week 2

Arizona Cardinals

State Farm Stadium

Sunday, Sept. 17, 4:05 p.m., FOX

Arizona's 2022 record: 4-13, NFC West fourth place

Series Record: Regular season: Giants lead, 80-46-2

The Cardinals' active four-game winning streak in the series is their longest since they won seven in a row from 1974-77. Three of those triumphs were in MetLife Stadium, most recently a 26-7 triumph on Dec. 13, 2020. The Giants last played in Arizona on Dec. 24, 2017, when they lost, 23-0, under interim coach Steve Spagnuolo. Their most recent victory in the series was by a 31-27 score on Oct. 2, 2011 in State Farm Stadium. The Giants' most significant triumph in that venue was their 21-17 victory against New England in Super Bowl XLII (when it was called University of Phoenix Stadium). From 1970-2002, the Giants and Cardinals were both members of the NFC East. The Giants are 51-42-5 in road openers.

Week 3

San Francisco 49ers

Levi's Stadium

Thursday, Sept. 21, 8:15 p.m., Prime Video

San Francisco's 2022 record: 13-4, NFC West first place, second playoff seed

Series Record: Regular season: Series tied, 17-17; Postseason: Tied, 4-4

The Giants and 49ers have clashed in 42 regular-season and postseason games, with each side winning 21. Since the Giants' victory in San Francisco in the 2011 NFC Championship Game, the teams have alternated victories in their six meetings. They last faced each other on Sept. 27, 2020, when the 49ers won in MetLife Stadium, 36-9. The Giants are 1-1 in Levi's Stadium, where they won in their last visit to the Bay Area, 27-23, on Monday night, Nov. 12, 2018. How close is this series? In their 42 meetings, the victories are equal, and they are separated by only 22 points (49ers 874, Giants 852).

Week 4

Seattle Seahawks

MetLife Stadium

Monday, Oct. 2, 8:15 p.m., ESPN

Seattle's 2022 record: 9-8, NFC West second place, seventh playoff seed

Series Record: Regular season: Giants lead, 10-9

The Giants broke a four-game losing streak in the series with a 17-12 victory in the teams' most recent meeting, in Seattle on Dec. 6, 2020. Colt McCoy was the Giants' quarterback in that game because Daniel Jones was sidelined with a hamstring injury. Leonard Williams was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after recording 2.5 sacks of Russell Wilson. The Seahawks are 3-0 vs the Giants in MetLife Stadium (winning in 2011, 2013 and 2017).

Week 5

Miami Dolphins

Hard Rock Stadium

Sunday, Oct. 8, 1 p.m., FOX

Miami's 2022 Record: 9-8, AFC East second place, seventh postseason seed

Series Record: Giants lead, 7-3

The teams met two years ago, when each NFL team first played 17 games and the NFC East was pitted against the AFC East. The Dolphins' 20-9 victory ended the Giants' four-game winning streak in the series. It was also the Giants' first loss in four visits to Miami, where they won in 1993, 1996 and 2015. The Giants also defeated the Dolphins as visitors in London in 2007.

When the Giants last beat Miami, on Dec. 15, 2019, Eli Manning made his final career start and threw two touchdown passes in a 36-20 victory. The Giants will face the Dolphins for only the 10th time, their fewest games against any opponent in existence at the 1970 merger.

Week 6

Buffalo Bills

Highmark Stadium

Sunday, Oct. 15, 8:20 p.m., NBC*

Buffalo's 2022 record: 13-3, AFC East first place, second postseason seed

Series Record: Regular season: Bills lead, 7-6; Postseason: Giants lead, 1-0

The Giants won their last three games in Buffalo (where they have not lost since 1993). Of course, they play there every eight years, so the victories were in 1999, 2007 and 2015. The Bills won the teams' most recent meeting, 28-14, on Sept. 15, 2019, in MetLife Stadium – the last game before Daniel Jones replaced Eli Manning as the Giants' starting quarterback. Josh Allen threw for one touchdown and ran for another. The teams last met in Buffalo on Oct. 4, 2015, when Manning threw three touchdown passes in a 24-10 Giants victory. The Giants defeated the Bills, 20-19 in Super Bowl XXV in Tampa on Jan. 27, 1991.

Week 7

Washington Commanders

MetLife Stadium

Sunday, Oct. 22, 1 p.m., CBS

Week 11

FedExField

Sunday, Nov. 19, 1 p.m., FOX

Washington's 2021 record: 8-8-1, NFC East fourth place

Series Record: Regular season: Giants lead, 105-70-5; Postseason: Tied, 1-1

The Giants played Washington twice in a three-game span in 2022 and went 1-0-1. The teams' 20-20 tie on Dec. 4 in MetLife Stadium was the Giants' first deadlock in 25 years. Their previous tie was also against Washington, 7-7 on Nov. 23, 1997. In the rematch two weeks later in FedexField, the Giants scored a pair of second-quarter touchdowns and Graham Gano kicked two second-half field goals in a 20-12 victory. Kayvon Thibodeaux was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after recording 12 tackles, including a nine-yard sack on which he forced and recovered a fumble and scored a touchdown on a one-yard return. The Giants have faced Washington 180 times in the regular season since their first meeting in 1932, making this their most frequently contested rivalry. They are 8-4-1 vs. Washington in MetLife Stadium and 15-10-1 in FedEx Field. The Giants have swept the season series 34 times.

Week 8

New York Jets

Sunday, Oct. 29, 1 p.m., CBS

Jets' 2022 Record: 7-10, AFC East fourth place

Series Record: Giants lead, 8-6

The Giants will be the home team for this game between the franchises that share MetLife Stadium, and for the second consecutive year, they will face Aaron Rodgers. Last year, he played for the Green Bay Packers and the teams met in London. This season is his first with the Jets, who won the last two meetings following a five-game Giants winning streak in the series. On Dec. 6, 2015, the Jets triumphed in overtime, 23-20. Four years ago, the Giants fell behind, 14-0, rallied to take a 27-21 lead behind four Daniel Jones touchdown passes, but gave up the final 13 points of the game in a 34-27 loss. The teams' most memorable game was on Dec. 24, 2011, when Eli Manning and Victor Cruz hooked up for a franchise-record 99-yard touchdown pass, and the Giants went on to win, 29-14, a huge triumph on their world championship journey. Except for the 2020 pandemic year, the teams have met in the preseason every summer since 1969.

See where the New York Giants will play on the road during the 2023 season.

Week 9

Las Vegas Raiders

Allegiant Stadium

Sunday, Nov. 5, 4:25 p.m., FOX

Last Vegas' 2022 record: 6-11, AFC West third place

Series Record: Regular season: Giants trail, 8-6

The Giants will make their first visit to Las Vegas and Allegiant Stadium to face the Raiders. The teams last met on Nov. 7, 2021, when the Giants rushed for 149 yards and Xavier McKinney intercepted two passes, including one he returned 41 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter to give the Giants a lead they never relinquished. When the Giants last visited the Raiders on Dec. 3, 2017, the game was played in Oakland. The 24-17 loss is perhaps best remembered because Eli Manning didn't play, ending his streak of 210 consecutive regular season starts. This has been a series of streaks – Oakland won the first three games, the Giants the next two, the Raiders won four in a row, and the Giants have won four of their last five meetings.

Week 12

New England Patriots

MetLife Stadium

Sunday, Nov. 26, 1 p.m. FOX

New England's 2022 Record: 8-9 AFC East third place

Series Record: Regular season: Giants trail, 7-4; Postseason: Giants lead, 2-0

The Giants will host the Patriots for the first time since Nov. 15, 2015, when Stephen Gostkowski's 54-yard field goal with one second remaining gave New England a 27-26 victory. The teams last met on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, when the Patriots scored the final 21 points in a 35-14 victory. Tom Brady scored two of those touchdowns on a pair of one-yard runs. Prior to that meeting, the victory margins in the previous five games between the teams were 3, 3, 4, 4, and 1 point – 15 total points. The Giants were 3-2 in those games, including two Super Bowl victories. In the teams' 11 regular-season games, the Patriots have scored Giants 224 points, the Giants 207.

Week 14

Green Bay Packers

MetLife Stadium

Monday, Dec. 11, 8:15 p.m., ABC*

Green Bay's 2022 record: 8-9, NFC North third place

Series Record: Regular season: Giants trail, 29-24-2; Postseason: Giants trail, 5-3

The Giants will get their first look at the Packers without Aaron Rodgers when they host their second Monday night game of the season. Last Oct. 9, the Giants overcame a 14-point second-quarter deficit to defeat the Packers in London, 27-22, to break Green Bay's three-game winning streak in the series. That included one postseason game. Since 2007, the teams have met three times in the playoffs, all in Green Bay, with the Giants winning the first two, including the 2007 NFC Championship Game. The Giants are 2-2 vs. the Packers in MetLife Stadium. In the 55 regular-season games played between the teams, the Packers have outscored the Giants, 999-980.

Week 15

New Orleans Saints

Caesars Superdome

Sunday Dec. 17, 1 p.m., FOX

New Orleans' 2022 record: 7-10, NFC South third place

Series Record: Regular season: Giants lead, 17-14

The Giants and Saints have alternated victories in their last six meetings, with the Giants winning in 2012, 2016 and 2021 and New Orleans winning in 2011, 2015 and 2018. The Giants defeated the Saints in overtime, 27-21, on Oct. 3, 2021, to break their six-game losing streak in New Orleans that dated to 1994. Daniel Jones threw for a career-high 402 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown to Saquon Barkley, who later scored the game-winning touchdown on a six-yard run with 5:06 elapsed in overtime. The Giants are 4-9 in New Orleans, with all but their 1970 loss played in what is now the Caesars Superdome.

Week 16

Philadelphia Eagles

Lincoln Financial Field

Monday, Dec. 25, 4:30 p.m., FOX

Week 18

MetLife Stadium

Date, Time and Network TBD*

Philadelphia's 2022 record: 14-3, NFC East first place, NFC champions

Series Record: Regular season: Giants trail, 89-85-2; Postseason: Giants trail, 3-2

The Giants' first ever Christmas Day game will be played in what has become their least-favorite NFL venue. They have lost 10 consecutive games in Lincoln Financial Field, their longest streak in one stadium in franchise history, where they are 6-14 in the regular season and 0-2 in postseason play. This rivalry, which began in 1933, hit another unpleasant milestone for the Giants in 2022, when the Eagles became the first opponent to defeat them three times in one season, and they were the first team to ever lose to the Eagles thrice in a season. Philadelphia won both regular-season games and an NFC divisional playoff game within a seven-week span. On Dec. 11, the Eagles soared in MetLife Stadium, 48-22, as Jalen Hurts threw two touchdowns passes and ran for a third score. In the regular-season finale on Jan. 8, the Giants rested most of their starters and fell, 22-16. The playoff game belonged to the Eagles, who jumped out to a 28-point halftime lead on their way to a 38-7 triumph. Since then, Philly lost several key members of the organization. Coordinators Shane Steichen and Jonathan Gannon took head coaching jobs and Miles Sanders, Javon Hargrave, T.J. Edwards, Marcus Epps and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson departed via free agency. The Giants are 4-9 against the Eagles in MetLife Stadium (plus 0-1 in the postseason).

Week 17

Los Angeles Rams

MetLife Stadium

Sunday, Dec. 31, 1 p.m., FOX

Los Angeles' 2022 record: 5-12, NFC West third place

Series Record: Regular season: Giants trail, 28-16; Postseason: Tied, 1-1

This has been a series of streaks. The Rams won the last three games in the series, including 51-17 (in 2017) and 38-11 (in 2021) victories in MetLife Stadium. Those triumphs were preceded by a seven-game Giants winning streak vs. Los Angeles/St. Louis (from 2002-16), which followed five straight victories the Rams (the first in 1994). The Giants last defeated the Rams at home in 2011.

*This season, "flexible scheduling" for Sunday night may be used twice between Weeks 5-10, and in the NFL's discretion during Weeks 11-17; and for Monday night in the NFL's discretion in Weeks 13-17. During the Flex Scheduling Windows, the games initially scheduled for Sunday night (on NBC) and Monday night (ESPN or ABC) are tentatively scheduled and subject to change. Only Sunday afternoon games (or those listed as TBD) are eligible to be moved to Sunday night or Monday night, in which case the initially scheduled Sunday/Monday night game would be moved to Sunday afternoon. Sunday afternoon games may also be moved between 1:00 p.m. and 4:05 p.m. or 4:25 p.m. ET. As in prior seasons, for Week 18, the final weekend of the season, the scheduling of the Saturday, Sunday afternoon, and the Sunday night games is not assigned. In Week 18, two games will be played on Saturday (4:30 p.m. ET and 8:15 p.m. ET) with the remainder to be played on Sunday afternoon (1:00 p.m. and 4:25 p.m.) and one matchup to be played on Sunday night (8:20 p.m. ET). Specific dates, start times, and networks for Week 18 matchups will be determined and announced following the conclusion of Week 17.
