Q: What adjustments did you make from the first half to second half?**
A: I choose not to think about how they ran against us in the first half. Well, I think our coaches did a good job of coming in and making subtle adjustments. We didn't do much, but we kind of figured out how they were doing different things than what they showed on film. They had a lot of different motioning with the H-back and that kind threw off how we wanted to set the front. They had an extra man on a lot of runs in the first half and we made that adjustment and it proved well going forward.
Q: Was it hard to work Canty into the mix?
A: No, I don't think so. One thing about Canty is he is the same every day. We know how he plays, how to fit in with him. I don't think it was that much of a struggle. I think he did a great job of coming in and playing this difficult of an offensive scheme on his first game back coming off a knee injury, with just how fast those guys run that zone read. I think he did a pretty good job.
Q: How did Griffin III stack up in person?
A: I'm pretty mad at the football gods for putting him in the NFC East. To face that guy twice a year is going to be a headache. But, you know, the one thing about it is, a quarterback like that, he is different from the Eli's and those guys, because he presents such a hard, it's just hard to game plan that guy. He takes away from your enthusiasm for the game a little bit, when you play a play perfectly and he still has 4.3 speed to run by guys and make plays. A guy like him, I don't think there is anybody in the league just like him. If I was going to run that offense and they asked me to pick between Vick, Cam Newton, the RGIII, I'm probably taking that guy.
Q: Why? Because of that 4th-and-10 play?
A: One of them. He made a play where I had to dive for him and he still ran around me like he was just out there playing in the back yard. It's an eerie feeling when you get up off the ground and you look up and that quick and he is already 30 yards down the field. It's frustrating, but I think it's going to bring the best out of us, especially when we go down there because that's going to be a dog fight, too.
Q: Can you talk about the importance of this win, especially since it is a division win?
A: Huge. You want those tiebreakers. The NFC East is one of the most difficult divisions in football and it always seems like it comes down to one or two games and you want those tiebreakers and you want to be able to get the wins in the division. Sometimes it doesn't matter, but it's rare that it doesn't. It's huge for us to get off the schneid being 0-2 coming into this game and we've got an opportunity next week to get even. That's very important for us.
Q: How about Griffin III's maturity?
A: It was impressive, it really was. Being in those third-and-long situations at the end of the
game and he didn't pick up a first down on that, but just getting it to a 4th-and-short where they
could go for it, or that 4th-and-10 play where he is scrambling and has JPP and myself and Osi chasing after him, he just seemed to always keep his eyes down field. So, that's pretty much impressive. You've seen lots of quarterbacks get rattled there and just throw the ball up for grabs. Whatever. It was impressive to watch.
*Q: Since you've seen Eli do it before and knowing he has a shot to do it again, does that change the feeling after they go ahead late? *
A: It's getting old. I'd rather have us in a victory formation kneeling the ball than him having to throw a 77-yard pass to Cruz to win it for us. But that is the excitement that is New York Giants football. Mr. Mara came up to me a while ago and I had to tell him, had to show him the gray hairs on my head from watching these games unfold. But it's exciting. This is probably going to be the game of the week from my vantage point. As far as the excitement that it was. But we are lucky to pull this one off and hopefully we can continue to do things like this.
Q: Outside of the touchdown at the end, the defense played pretty well. What did you guys say to each other at halftime?
A: I mean it wasn't anything. It was just making subtle adjustments, starting to realize what they were trying to do to attack us to kind of get us out of position. I mean that zone read, that's just difficult to prepare before. I mean, they can make subtle adjustments that throws our whole defense off just by sending a guy in motion the other way. It's just about having our great communication. I think we liked some communication in the first half, I thought we picked it up in the second half and I think that was the turning point toward stopping that play.
