The rain held off in East Rutherford, N.J., and the team was able to hit the grass fields as rookies and first-year tryouts tried to make their mark.

Here is a roundup from Day 2::

HIGHLIGHTS

Former Illinois TE Matt LaCosse made a few nice catches today during both 1-on-1 and 7-on-7 drills. The top play was his diving grab from ex-Rutgers quarterback Gary Nova on a ball contested by safety Bennett Jackson.

LaCosse, 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds, was one of six undrafted rookie free agents signed by the Giants after he caught 38 passes for 397 yards (10.4 avg.) and six touchdowns in 46 games during his career at Illinois. Here's his scouting report from NFL.com:

"With a long frame and good speed, LaCosse has the tools to work with for teams looking for a tight end who can stretch the field or stress linebackers in one-on-one matchups. His lack of college production will limit the number of team radars he hits, but he has enough talent to warrant a legitimate look and his ability to play special teams should help his chances."

During team drills, quarterback Taylor Graham (Hawaii), son of former Giants quarterback Kent Graham, and wide receiver Ben Edwards (Richmond) hooked up for the longest passing play of rookie mini-camp so far.

1-ON-1

Including LaCosse's play mentioned above, the 1-on-1 drills are always must-watch at camps. Some of the notable plays included cornerback Qua Cox (Jackson State) breaking up a pass intended for wide receiver Derrick Johnson (Maine) and tight end Will Tye (Stony Brook) tipping a pass to himself through traffic.

Here are some other good matchups seen out on the field:

Safety Landon Collins (Alabama) vs. TE Matt Marfisi (Tulane)
WR Andrew Robustelli (Jasonville) vs. CB Ian Williams (Fordham)
TE Jerome Cunningham (So. Connecticut State) vs. Safety C.J. Conway (Montclair State)

DEFENSIVE LINE LINEUP

Yesterday we looked at the offensive line configurations, which for the most part remained the same on the second day. As for the defensive line, here were some of the lineups that were spotted today (from left to right):

Owa Odighizuwa-Rakeem Knight-Donte Rumph-Jordan Stanton
Brad Bars-Daryl Waud-Carlif Taylor-Brad Harrah

SPECIAL PLAYERS

Punter Bobby Cowan (Idaho) showcased his skills again today at the Quest Diagnostics training Center. The lefty played in three preseason games with the Rams last year. He is Idaho's career punting average record holder (44.7) as well as total punts (259) and punting yards (11,570).

Meanwhile, kicker Chris Boswell (Rice), who made both of his two field goal attempts and handled kickoffs in the preseason last year for the Texans, made one from 55 yards today. It barely grazed the left upright and tapped in for a good try.
