In addition to running back Saquon Barkley signing his franchise tag, the New York Giants added outside linebacker Tashawn Bower to the roster as the team reports for training camp.

In corresponding moves, the Giants waived/injured outside linebacker Elerson Smith and waived defensive back Trenton Thompson.

Undrafted in 2017, the 6-foot-5, 250-pound LSU product has played in 26 games (three starts) for the Vikings (2017-19, 2021), Patriots (2020-21), and Raiders (2022). His career numbers include 23 tackles (four for loss) and 2.0 sacks.

Bower played in 40 games at LSU, starting seven times. He finished his college career with 60 tackles, 12.0 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks.

Bower played primarily at defensive end for his first three years before transitioning to a hybrid outside linebacker/defensive end role, where he had his best season. Bower saved his best performance for last with 3.0 sacks of Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson in the Citrus Bowl.

Born in Livingston, Bower was ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the state of New Jersey by ESPN when he came out of Immaculata High School.
