Cam Skattebo nominated for Pepsi Rookie of the Week

Cam Skattebo has been nominated again for Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Week.

It is the second consecutive nomination for the running back, who led the Giants in rushing (10 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown) and receiving (six catches for 61 yards) on Sunday Night Football against the Chiefs.

The fourth-round pick from Arizona State became the eighth rookie in franchise history to produce 60+ receiving yards and 60+ rushing yards in the same game. He also forced seven missed tackles along the way, according to Next Gen Stats, and racked up 58 yards after catch. He took on an even bigger role after fellow running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., who had 1,000 yards from scrimmage as a rookie last year, suffered a shoulder injury late in the first quarter and did not return.

"Cam is a good young player to coach," coach Brian Daboll said Monday. "He runs hard. He makes few mistakes relative to understanding the schematics of things. Instinctive player and made the most of his opportunity."

Skattebo now ranks fifth among NFL rookies in yards from scrimmage. The other four were all drafted three rounds ahead of him.

The winner will be announced Thursday on NFL.com. After the regular season, six players will be nominated for Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Year honors.
