Charles Davis predicts playmaker to Giants in latest mock draft

Mock draft season is starting to heat up.

NFL Media analyst Charles Davis is the latest to release his predictions for the first round of next month's draft, where he believes the Giants add another weapon for Daniel Jones in the passing game.

Pick: Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU

Analysis: "With QB Daniel Jones locked in long-term, it's time to get him some help on the perimeter. Johnston is a big target who should fit well in the Giants' physical offense. With Julian Love departing in free agency, a defensive back like Brian Branch might also make sense here."

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound wideout is one of the bigger-bodied receivers in the 2023 draft class. He used that size to his advantage during his breakout campaign last year. Across 14 games, he caught 60 passes for 1,069 yards and six touchdowns on his way to being named AP First-Team All-Big 12.

In three seasons with the Horned Frogs, Johnston caught 115 passes for 2,190 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Johnston, who comes in at No. 29 on Daniel Jeremiah’s top 50 prospects, displayed his big play ability throughout his time at TCU. During his three seasons there, he finished with averages of 22.1, 19.2 and 17.8 yards per reception.

Johnston told reporters "I for sure see myself in blue" at this year's NFL Combine.

"Johnston has exceptional size, speed and production," writes Jeremiah. "He uses a variety of releases to defeat press coverage and gains ground in a hurry with his long, powerful stride. The TCU offense featured him on a lot of crossing routes and deep balls over the top. He amassed a large collection of explosive plays. Drops are his biggest issue. He doesn't trust his hands, leading to way too many balls bouncing off his body and onto the turf. After the catch, he reminds me of Mike Williams with his long stride and power to break tackles. Overall, Johnston has ideal size and speed, but he needs to become a more reliable finisher with his hands. "
