The 33rd Team picks Daniel Jones among 2023 breakout players

In Year 1 under head coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, quarterback Daniel Jones put together his most efficient NFL season.

According to some in the media, Jones could take his game to another level in Year 2 under the two talented offensive minds.

The 33rd Team's Ari Meirov chose seven potential breakout players for the 2023 season, one of which was the Giants' franchise quarterback.

"New York added pass-catchers Darren Waller, Parris Campbell and Jalin Hyatt," Meirov wrote. "They also drafted C John Michael Schmitz, who is likely a plug-and-play starter. Jones built great chemistry with coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka in their first year together and having the entire offensive staff remain intact should go a long way."

In his fourth year in the NFL, Jones enjoyed his most efficient season in 2022. He registered new career-marks with 3,205 passing yards and a 92.5 passer rating, while also setting new franchise records in several categories, including completion percentage (67.5), interception percentage (1.06; No. 1 in the NFL), rushing yards (708) and rushing touchdowns (seven).

Jones also found success throwing the ball downfield last season. His 119.3 passer rating on deep passes was the third-highest in the NFL, while his 43.5 deep completion percentage ranked ninth. The 6-foot-5 quarterback also threw a career-low five interceptions.

"It's definitely beneficial for myself as well as all the guys who have been here, having learned it once," Jones said during the first week of OTAs about playing in the same offense for the second consecutive year. "I think in that we don't want to skip steps or look over anything during this time of the year. We're focused on continuing to evolve and change-up what we're doing, experiment with different things that may be good for us. In that, we're always kind of learning. We're always adjusting and trying to work on new and different things."

Here is everyone named to Meirov's list of 2023 breakout players:

  • QB Daniel Jones, New York Giants
  • S Jevon Holland, Miami Dolphins
  • QB Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh Steelers
  • TE Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons
  • RB Alexander Mattison, Minnesota Vikings
  • TE Greg Dulcich, Denver Broncos
  • OT Bernhard Raimann, Indianapolis Colts
