Giants sign former Raiders RB Devontae Booker

BOOKER

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Giants have signed running back Devontae Booker.

Booker, 5-11 and 219 pounds, is entering his sixth NFL season. He played four years for the Denver Broncos and the 2020 season for the Las Vegas Raiders, who he joined as a free agent last May.

Booker is expected to back up Saquon Barkley, who missed the final 14 games last year after suffering a torn ACL in Chicago on Sept. 20. The other running backs who carried the ball for the Giants are either no longer with the team or are impending free agents.

Booker will turn 29 in May. He has played in 77 games with seven starts and has 382 carries for 1,526 yards (4.0-yard avg.) and nine touchdowns, plus 122 receptions for 956 yards and one score. Both his longest run and longest catch were 43 yards. Booker also has a 20.9-yard average on 30 kickoff returns.

Last season, he played in all 16 games for the third consecutive year and the fourth time in his career, starting one. He rushed for 423 yards and three touchdowns on 93 attempts and caught 17 passes for 84 yards.

Booker was a fourth-round draft choice (136th pick overall) draft choice by Denver in 2016. As a rookie, he played in every game and had career-high totals of six starts, 174 carries, 612 yards and four touchdowns. He also recorded 31 catches for 265 yards and his only career receiving touchdown. Booker caught a career-best 38 catches for 285 yards in 2018.
