(September 13, 2010, Newark, NJ) – Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) and the New York Football Giants are teaming up again this season.  Each time the Giants score on the field, Horizon BCBSNJ will make a donation to benefit children and families in New Jersey.

The 2010-2011 football season heralds the return of the Touchdowns for Families program.  For every touchdown the Giants score, Horizon BCBSNJ will donate $250 to the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance to use for the "Healthy U" initiative.  "Healthy U" is the largest evidence-based, after-school childhood obesity prevention program in the nation with more than 20,000 children ages 5-12 participating at 414 after-school sites across New Jersey.  Last season, Horizon BCBSNJ contributed $12,000 to the Touchdowns for Families program to benefit the "Healthy U" initiative.

"We're excited to partner with the Giants on the Touchdowns for Families program because the contributions will help improve the health of children and families throughout New Jersey," said Christopher M. Lepre, Senior Vice President, Market Business Units at Horizon BCBSNJ.  "We thank the Giants for their support of the program and the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance for their ongoing dedication of implementing the "Healthy U" initiative that teaches children how to make healthy life choices."

Kevin Boss, tight end for the Giants has been named the "Official Spokesperson" for the Touchdown for Families program for the 2010-11 season.  "I am proud to be associated with the Touchdowns for Families program this year and thrilled to know that every time we score a touchdown we are contributing to the well-being of families throughout New Jersey," said Boss, who himself caught five touchdown passes last season.  "As a professional athlete, I understand the importance of proper nutrition and exercise and it is a pleasure to be a part of a program that is teaching those lessons to kids."

"We are honored to be the beneficiary of the Touchdown for Families program for a second year and that Horizon BCBSNJ and the New York Giants are continuing their support of the "Healthy U" initiative," said Richard Gorab, President, New Jersey YMCA State Alliance.  "These funds help ensure that New Jersey children learn the importance of good nutrition and exercise and that parents learn to model healthy living strategies for the entire family."
