Jaxson Dart named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month

JAXSON-DART-ROOKIE-OF-THE-MONTH

Quarterback Jaxson Dart has been named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for October, becoming the fifth different Giant to win the award since 2002.

In four October games, Dart ranked first among NFL rookies in total touchdowns (10), passing touchdowns (seven) and passer rating (90.0). His three rushing touchdowns, meanwhile, are tied for first.

Ravens linebacker Teddye Buchanan won the award on the defensive side.

Dart is the first Giant to be named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month since wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. won back-to-back awards in November and December of 2014. Beckham, the 12th overall pick that season, went on to be voted the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. It was the first time a Giants player won the yearly award since Lawrence Taylor did it on the defensive side of the ball in 1981. Saquon Barkley did it on offense again for the Giants in 2018.

The other Giants players to be named NFL Rookie of the Month are: wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (October of 2009), safety Gibril Wilson (October of 2004), and tight end Jeremy Shockey (November and December of 2002).

Dart is the fifth former Mississippi player to win a Rookie of the Month award, joining wide receiver A.J. Brown (December of 2019), tackle Michael Oher (December and January of 2009), tackle Todd Wade (October of 2007), and linebacker Patrick Willis (December of 2007).

A look at past Giants who were named NFL Rookies of the Month and their performances in that span.

Year Month Player College Stats
2002 November TE Jeremy Shockey Miami 4 G, 20 rec, 214 yds
2002 December TE Jeremy Shockey Miami 5 G, 32 rec, 402 yds, 1 TD
2004 October S Gibril Wilson Tennessee 4 G, 30 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 INT
2009 October WR Hakeem Nicks UNC 4 G, 14 rec, 297 yds, 4 TD
2014 November WR Odell Beckham Jr. LSU 5 G, 38 rec, 593 yds, 2 TD
2014 December WR Odell Beckham Jr. LSU 4 G, 43 rec, 606 yds, 7 TD
2025 October QB Jaxson Dart Ole Miss 4 G, 7 pass TD, 3 rush TD, 90.0 passer rating

Dart was the only 2025 rookie responsible for at least two touchdowns in each of the four games in October. The only other quarterbacks to do that were veterans Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts and Daniel Jones.

Since 2000, only five rookies (including Dart) have been responsible for 10+ touchdowns in the month of October. The others are Justin Herbert (11 in 2020), Deshaun Watson (17 in 2017), Dak Prescott (10 in 2016), and Cam Newton (12 in 2011). Of those four other rookies to achieve 10+ TDs in October, two of them earned rookie of the month honors (Herbert and Watson).

Dart became the first Giants quarterback since at least 1950 to record a rushing touchdown in three straight games (Weeks 6-8).

Dart also joined Tim Tebow as the only quarterback in NFL history to record at least one passing and one rushing touchdown in three straight games.

Overall, Dart is the only quarterback in the Super Bowl era with at least eight passing touchdowns, four rushing touchdowns, and fewer than five giveaways in his first five career starts, according to NFL Research. The 25th overall pick made his starting debut in the final game of September, a 21-18 victory over the Chargers.

Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka (offense) and Falcons safety Xavier Watts (defense) won the rookie of the month awards for September of 2025.
