Jaxson Dart nominated for Pepsi Rookie of the Week

JAXSON-DART-ROOKIE-OF-THE-WEEK-5

Despite suffering his first loss as a starter, Jaxson Dart has been nominated for Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week.

This is the fourth consecutive week a Giants rookie has been nominated for the honor.

Running back Cam Skattebo, a fourth-round draft choice who is currently fifth among all NFL rookies in yards from scrimmage, was up for it in Weeks 2 and 3. Dart was also nominated in Week 4 after he became the first rookie quarterback to beat a team 3-0 or better in his first career start since Phil Simms in 1979 against the 5-0 Buccaneers (excluding strike seasons).

In his first road start, Dart completed 26 of 40 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns to second-year tight end Theo Johnson at the beginning of the game. After that, the Giants punted twice and then turned the ball over on five consecutive drives (including two interceptions and a fumble by Dart), erasing a double-digit lead that ultimately turned into a 26-14 victory for the Saints.

Dart, the 25th overall pick, became the fourth quarterback in the Super Bowl Era to rush for at least 50 yards in each of his first two starts. The others are Randall Cunningham, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts, whom the Giants will face this week on Thursday Night Football.

Fans can vote for Dart at nfl.com/rookies and on the NFL Mobile app through Thursday at 11 a.m. ET to determine who will bring home the Rookie of the Week championship belt for Week 5. The winner will be announced Thursday on NFL.com.

After the regular season, six players will be nominated for Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Year honors. This is the 24th year that Pepsi will present the NFL Rookie of the Week and NFL Rookie of the Year awards.

A look at the rookie nominees for Week 5:

QB Jaxson Dart (NYG): Completed 26 of 40 passes (65 percent) for 202 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs. Also rushed for 55 yards.
