Malachi Fields named to PFF Rookie Team of the Week
Pro Football Focus announced their Preseason Week 1 Rookie Team of the Week on Monday.
Featured on the list was Giants wide receiver Malachi Fields.
"The 74th overall pick, Malachi Fields, ran only 11 routes but moved the chains three times," wrote PFF's Daire Carragher. "That included an impressive contested touchdown catch on a scramble drill, a play he executed with the awareness of an established veteran."
Fields caught a team-high three passes in his limited action, totaling 34 yards and the impressive, contested touchdown grab from Jaxson Dart.
The rookie wideout has had a strong summer, and in his first chance to show off his skillset in a game setting, Fields left his quarterback impressed.
"That was a big thing that I love about Malachi's tape coming out (of college) ā was his ability to go make contested catches," quarterback Jaxson Dart told the media after the game. "I feel like he's a player that regardless of what route that he's on, just from his range and stature and his ability to have really good hands that he's never really out of a play. And he loves the game, he competes through the whistle. You see that in the way that not only he runs his routes but also the way that he blocks, so I think he's just been doing what he's been doing and I have a ton of faith in him."
