Giants Now: Strahan talks mentorship of Kayvon

Michael Strahan discusses mentorship of rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux

The relationship between Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan and Giants rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux has been well-documented.

The Giants legend began mentoring the young edge rusher when Thibodeaux was still at Oregon, and has continued to guide the 22-year-old since he joined Big Blue.

Strahan recently spoke with former Giants teammate Tiki Barber in an appearance on WFAN Sports Radio's Tiki & Tierney, where he discussed his growing mentorship of Thibodeaux.

"I believe we got a good pick who's going to bring some joy to Giants fans for some years to come," Strahan told Barber. "I just hope he'll allow me to help him as much as I can if there's anything he needs."

Strahan was a second-round pick (No. 40 overall) of the Giants back in 1993. He would go on to register 141.5 sacks over a 15-year career, all of which was spent with the Giants. In his first NFL season, Strahan played nine games with zero starts and picked up just one sack.

Thibodeaux recently said he would love to average one sack a game during his rookie campaign, a goal that the Hall of Fame defensive end believes isn't that far-fetched.

"Seventeen, 18 sacks? I remember coming out of college and saying I wanted 10. He's a little greedier than I am," Strahan joked. "But I think with this kid, he could possibly do it with the position that he's playing, with his athletic ability. And you know, [defensive coordinator] Wink Martindale. Wink just sends pressure, baby. Wink does not hold back."
