Giants Now: PFF grades Giants' offseason moves

Pro Football Focus recognizes Giants' offseason

We are only a few days into free agency, but the Giants have already made numerous moves.

The Giants' big splash came in the acquisition of outside linebacker Brian Burns in a trade with the Carolina Panthers, a move that has been widely praised by NFL analysts across the media.

Outside of the trade, the Giants have made several free agent signings to help improve the roster on both sides of the ball.

Here are the additions the Giants have made thus far this offseason:

  • Outside Linebacker Brian Burns
  • Offensive Lineman Jon Runyan Jr.
  • Offensive Lineman Jermaine Eluemunor
  • Running Back Devin Singletary
  • Defensive Back Jalen Mills
  • Quarterback Drew Lock
  • Wide Receiver Isaiah McKenzie

Pro Football Focus' Brad Spielberger handed out a grade for every teams' offseason moves thus far, in which the Giants received an A-, one of only six teams to receive an "A" grade.

"The most favorable way to look at this deal is that the Giants effectively used the draft capital they acquired for interior defender Leonard Williams to land a younger player looking for a second contract instead of a third contract," Spielberger said about the Burns' trade. "Burns addresses arguably the biggest need on this Giants roster and should have a lot less attention on him all the time now playing alongside Dexter Lawrence and Kayvon Thibodeaux.

"Runyan is a solid, durable player, and the Giants desperately needed to improve on the interior of their offensive line. However, while Runyan started every game in 2023, the Packers began rotating in second-year guard Sean Rhyan, and eventually, the snap counts were about 50-50 between the two.

"The Saquon Barkley era has ended in New York, and the Giants' brass turns to a familiar face in Singletary, whom general manager Joe Schoen helped scout with the Buffalo Bills and Brian Daboll coached as the offensive coordinator. Singletary was solid in Houston in a fairly sizable role, beating out Dameon Pierce for the starting job."

The Giants have also brought back a few of their own free agents, re-signing long snapper Casey Kreiter, linebacker Benton Whitley, wide receiver/punt returner Gunner Olszewski and linebacker Carter Coughlin.

Additionally, it was reported Thursday night that the Giants agreed to terms with tight end Jack Stoll.
