Practice squad adds DB Jawanza Starling

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. –** The Giants filled the eighth and final spot on their practice squad by signing defensive back Jawanza Starling from USC. Starling, 6-1 and 205, was signed as a rookie free agent by the Houston Texans on May 10 and was waived on Saturday.

Starling played in 42 games and started the final 33 games of his career at strong safety for the Trojans. His career totals included 128 tackles (80 solo), four interceptions, 11 pass breakups, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries, including one he returned for an 80-yard touchdown.

In 2012, he started all 13 games and recorded 42 tackles, three interceptions, four pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Starling was an outfielder on the 2010 USC baseball team, appearing in nine games with two starts in centerfield and batted .300 (3-for-10) with one RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.
