Presser Points: Mike Kafka provides injury updates

MIKE-KAFKA-PRIMEPOINT

The New York Giants (2-11) returned from their late bye week to begin preparations for the final four-game stretch, starting with a visit from the Washington Commanders (3-10) on Sunday.

Both NFC East rivals will be looking to break an unfavorable streak as it will mark the fifth game in NFL history between teams each entering with at least seven consecutive losses. Interim head coach Mike Kafka took the podium before Wednesday's practice to preview the matchup and provide roster updates.

Below is what you need to know.

📰 The Giants are opening the practice window for OL Joshua Ezeudu and WR Beaux Collins to return from injured reserve.

📰 The following players will not practice today: DL D.J. Davidson, OLB Victor Dimukeje, P Jamie Gillan, CB Nic Jones, DL Rakeem Nuñez-Roches Sr., WR Gunner Olszewski, G Greg Van Roten, and OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux.

📰 Gillan has some "knee inflammation" and is working through it. "We're monitoring it. We just want to be smart. It's early in the week. … Jamie is a tough kid. I'm sure he'll work through it."

📰 RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. is "good to go" after suffering a hip injury on Monday Night Football before the bye week.

📰 Thibodeaux is "working" and "looks good." He has missed three consecutive games with a shoulder injury.

📰 Coaches tried to maximize the time over the bye week to map out the remaining four games. They want to have "great intent" for the final stretch.

📰 Kafka said OLB Abdul Carter, who has not started two of the past three games due to a coach decision, is "doing a great job just learning from those experiences" and is in watching extra tape.

📰 QB Jaxson Dart seems "refreshed, energized" coming back from the bye week. Kafka had a couple conversations with him over the break. It was a good time for everyone to refresh their minds and bodies.

📰 The challenge for everyone on the team is to dial into their respective jobs for the remainder of the season.

📰 Kafka didn't get into the details of why assistant defensive line coach Bryan Cox was let go. "I've got a lot of respect for B-Cox, but I'm just not going to get into the details of the why behind it just out of respect. We'll just keep all that in-house." The decision was made Thursday.
