2025 Spring Practices

Presented by

Minicamp Report (6/17): Notes from the sideline

BRIAN-BURNS-BOBS

The Giants hit the practice field for the first of two minicamp practices. Despite the change in title, the practices are identical to OTAs (organized team activities) in terms of rules. No one is in pads and contact is not allowed.

* Practice started with 7-on-7's in the red zone, and the period's first touchdown proved Brian Daboll prophetic when he praised the play of the undrafted rookie free agents from the podium prior to practice. Russell Wilson hit undrafted rookie free agent Beaux Collins for a touchdown on a perfectly thrown fade. Collins started in the slot and the ball got placed toward the right sideline where he got his feet in for the score.

* Lil'Jordan Humphrey caught a touchdown pass from Jaxson Dart during 7-on-7's, tapping his toes for a touchdown on the left sideline. Jameis Winston connected with Dante "Turbo" Miller, who beat the linebacker to the back of the end zone.

* The defense stepped up in the subsequent team period and kept the offense out of the end zone, thanks in part to two Tomon Fox pass rushes that forced Brian Daboll to blow the plays dead.

* The Giants practiced the hurry-up offense in the next period, but it only took Russell Wilson two plays to find Theo Johnson with a well-placed throw over his shoulder for a touchdown along the left sideline. Eljah Chatman short-circuited the second group's scoring opportunity with a pair of pressures to uproot the quarterback. James Winston did finish the period with a touchdown pass to Dalin Cambre on a well-timed quick out to the right sideline.

* The final period was a competitive one with the offense trying to drive the full field with four downs against the defense. Russell Wilson completed a deep throw to Daniel Bellinger on a flag route towards the left sideline to put the offense within striking distance of the end zone, but the defense did not break. Abdul Carter used his speed off the edge to get into the backfield on first down. Then on the final two plays, Tre Hawkins forced an incompletion to the left side, and on fourth down Darius Muasau and Nic Jones combined to force an incomplete pass to give the defense the win.

* Jaxson Dart converted a 4th and 3 to keep his drive alive on a quick slant to Ihmir Smith-Marsette. Two plays later, he hit Dalen Cambre with a perfectly thrown deep ball down the right sideline. Cambre did not have to break stride, and it dropped in right over his shoulder as he got his feet in on his way out of bounds for the touchdown. The ball traveled about 30 yards in the air and could not have been put in a much better spot.

* The defense held Jameis Winston and his group out of the end zone, with strong defense from TJ Moore and a near interception on a batted pass from Chauncey Gholston that he almost ended up catching himself.

* Kicker Jude McAtamney had a strong day kicking the ball, showing his powerful leg, making at least one kick from 50+ yards away with a lot of room to spare.
