There is something to be said for earning the respect of your peers.

Saquon Barkley, who holds numerous accolades given to him by the media, has now been ranked among the best by his fellow NFL athletes for the second consecutive year. The Giants' running back checked in at No. 31 among the "Top 100 Players of 2020", which is determined solely by a vote of current players. This year, NFL Films collected 970 ballots and interviewed 132 players for the ranking.

Despite missing three games in the first half of the 2019 season due to an ankle injury, Barkley powered through to become the first player in Giants history to rush for at least 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons. He was ranked No. 16 in last year's edition after he turned in one of the greatest rookie seasons in Giants history.

Barkley, the 2018 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, was not a one-hit wonder.

Barkley, Carolina's Christian McCaffrey and New Orleans' Alvin Kamara are the only NFL players who totaled more than 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in 2018-19. On Dec. 22, 2019, Barkley set a franchise record with 279 yards from scrimmage (189 rushing and 90 receiving) in an overtime victory at Washington.

The former No. 2 overall pick's two-year totals include 2,310 rushing yards on 478 carries (4.8-yard avg.) and 17 touchdowns, plus 143 receptions for 1,159 yards (8.1-yard avg.) and six scores.

Barkley has 3,469 yards from scrimmage, which is easily a franchise record in a player's first two seasons. The former record was 2,793 scrimmage yards by wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in 2014-15.
