For the second week in a row, the defense didn't get credit for a shutout because of a breakdown by the punt team. Last week, Minnesota's Marcus Sherels returned a punt 86 yards for a touchdown, the third such score against the Giants this season. On Sunday, the Giants were less than five minutes from their first shutout since 2009 when longsnapper Zak DeOssie, for the first time in his seven-year career, snapped a ball so high that punter Steve Weatherford had no chance to catch it.

"The ball got away from me," DeOssie said. "I was thinking about blocking before I made the snap and that's my first mistake. Unfortunately, it happened when it did. I had one job to do and when I don't do it, it really eats away at me.

"It's demoralizing. I'm the longsnapper, I have one job to do – put it in the punter's hands. I hope nobody ever feels that feeling, but unfortunately, it's part of my job as well. I have to learn how to eat it and be a pro about it. Fortunately, Josh gave us a good cushion with five field goals and we have a lot of faith in our defense and they came through in the end there. My teammates picked me up."

Weatherford thought about picking up the ball. Then he considered kicking it out of the end zone. In the end, he did neither.

"We're taught to kick the ball out of the back of the end zone when something like that happens," Weatherford said. "And so I kind of looked to see if I would have enough time to be able to kick the ball and I did and when I looked back at the ball and drew back the ball bounced funny. I was like, 'Well I have to try to pick it up and throw the ball or just punt it out of here.' It's a little easier said than done, those balls bounce a little funny."

Weatherford said he had never seen DeOssie sail a punt like that, even in practice.

"I know that's not going to happen again," Weatherford said. "There's not really much that I can say in an interview that you guys don't already know. You just try to do some damage control at that point.

"It's a resilient team. For us, getting the win is obviously the most important thing, but moving forward, it's not really an issue. He's the best snapper in the league, stuff happens. Our defense played incredible today and it (the Eagles' touchdown) was a non-factor in the game."
