Giants Now: Wan'Dale Robinson ranks No. 2 in key stat

Wan'Dale Robinson ranked among top WRs in open-target rate

Wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson has been a popular breakout choice by members of the media throughout the offseason. With training camp now just two weeks away, praise for the 23-year-old has continued to roll in.

Pro Football Focus' Lauren Gray ranked the NFL's top wide receivers by open-target rate from the 2023 season, where the Giants' third-year wideout landed all the way up at No. 2.

"Robinson tied for a team-high 76 targets in 2023 at a 26.9% clip," wrote Gray. "He led the team in catches (60) and missed tackles forced (13) while recording seven gains of 20-plus yards. In all, Robinson finished with 525 receiving yards receiving and 29 first downs. He has the second-highest separation rate for the Giants in his first two NFL seasons (93.4%), as well as the second-highest target rate (27.5%)."

After missing the first two outings of the season as he finished his recovery from the torn ACL suffered during his rookie year, Robinson played the final 15 games. In addition to his success through the air, noted by Gray above, the 5-foot-8 receiver was very efficient as a runner, as well. Robinson took nine rush attempts for 87 yards, good for an average of 9.7 yards per carry, and scored a touchdown on the ground.

He seemed to really get going in the second half of the season. Robinson finished with at least five receptions in three of the team's last five games, in addition to topping 75 yards from scrimmage in the same three contests.

He finished with a career-best 115 total yards of offense in the Week 14 game against the Packers as he caught six of seven targets for 79 yards and added another 36 yards on two carries.

PFF recently named Robinson one of the league's top triple-threat receivers (yards after the catch per reception, contested catch rate and separation rate), while Cowboys star wideout CeeDee Lamb called the 23-year-old a "sleeper" earlier in the offseason.

"You know who's really a sleeper?" Lamb said on a podcast. "Wan'Dale Robinson from New York. He's so fast. He's so nice. His routes are crazy."

Here are the top five players on PFF's list of the top WRs in open-target rate:

  1. Kalif Raymond, Detroit Lions
  2. Wan'Dale Robinson, New York Giants
  3. Khalil Shakir, Buffalo Bills
  4. Rashee Rice, Kansas City Chiefs
  5. Zay Flowers, Baltimore Ravens
