PFF names Wan'Dale Robinson among league's top triple-threat receivers

Pro Football Focus recently broke down the top triple-threat wide receivers in the NFL last season.

The analytics site took a look at three different aspects of wide receivers' stats - yards after the catch per reception, contested catch rate and separation rate - and broke down the receivers that ranked above the 60th percentile in all three facets.

One of the few players to make the list was Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson.

"Of the six receivers to qualify for this list, Robinson leads the bunch in open-target rate (94.7%) and contested catch rate (80%), placing in the 94th percentile or greater in each facet," wrote PFF's Mason Cameron. "Understandably, coverage units had trouble matching up with Robinson's route-running ability, so contested targets were seldom (just five), but he finished those at a high clip, with only one resulting in an incompletion."

After missing the first two outings of the season as he finished his recovery from the torn ACL suffered during his rookie year, Robinson played the final 15 games.

The young wideout led the team with 60 receptions, while his 525 receiving yards ranked third. Of those 60 receptions, 29 resulted in a first down, which was tied with Darius Slayton for the most through the air on the team.

Here are the six players to make PFF's list of the top triple-threat receivers:

  • Amon-Ra St. Brown, Detroit Lions
  • Puka Nacua, Los Angeles Rams
  • Michael Pittman Jr., Indianapolis Colts
  • Zay Flowers, Baltimore Ravens
  • Wan'Dale Robinson, New York Giants
  • Khalil Shakir, Buffalo Bills

The 5-foot-8 receiver was very efficient as a runner, as well. Robinson took nine rush attempts for 87 yards, good for an average of 9.7 yards per carry, and scored a touchdown on the ground.

The 23-year-old seemed to really get going in the second half of the season. Robinson finished with at least five receptions in three of the team's last five games, in addition to topping 75 yards from scrimmage in the same three contests.

He finished with a career-best 115 total yards of offense in the Week 14 game against the Packers as he caught six of seven targets for 79 yards and added another 36 yards on two carries.

Earlier this offseason, Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb praised Robinson while appearing on a podcast with Micah Parsons.

"You know who's really a sleeper?" Lamb said to Parsons. "Wan'Dale Robinson from New York. He's so fast. He's so nice. His routes are crazy."
