When it comes to the defensive additions made by the Giants in the draft, Abdul Carter has garnered much of the attention. But he isn't the only talented player the Giants added to their defensive front this past weekend.

The Giants took Toledo defensive tackle Darius Alexander with the first selection of the third round (No. 65 overall), a pick that has earned some praise of its own over the last week.

NFL.com's Chad Reuter recently ranked his favorite picks from each round. When it came to the third round, the selection of Alexander was one of the three picks the draft analyst highlighted.

"The Giants grabbed the up-and-coming Alexander after he was passed over by the Bears and Chiefs late in the second round," wrote Reuter. "He lined up at 5-technique or wider at Toledo despite weighing 300 pounds; the Giants defense relies on big men to stuff tackles in the run game and work in tandem with stand-up rushers to baffle offensive tackles. Alexander might not be the next Leonard Williams, but I can see him becoming a very good starter."

Alexander earned second-team All-MAC honors this past season after picking up 40 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and 7.5 tackles for loss along with four passes defensed.

This came one year after he finished with 36 tackles, 4.0 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss on his way to being named third-team All-MAC.

While the 6-foot-4, 305-pound defensive lineman enjoyed plenty of success as a pass rusher over his last two seasons at Toledo, Alexander was also one of Pro Football Focus' top defensive tackles in the nation against the run this past season.

"Darius Alexander, a 3-technique that we did a lot of work on," general manager Joe Schoen told the media after drafting the defensive tackle. "He came in on a 30 visit as well, was down at the Senior Bowl, and just where we are, we felt we needed to add some youth to the defensive line, and this kid is just under 6'4", 315 pounds, 34-inch arms and freaky athletic.

"Down at the Senior Bowl and he had a really good week, and (defensive line coach) Dre Patterson, thinks the world of him and (assistant defensive line coach) Bryan Cox and getting a guy like this that can come in and develop with the depth that we have. Again, a high ceiling for this player, so we're excited to add another player to our front seven."
