CBS Sports names Dexter Lawrence as Giants' 2023 MVP

Dexter Lawrence put together his second consecutive dominant campaign for the Giants defense this season, and is once again being recognized for his strong play.

CBS Sports' Tyler Sullivan went through the entire league and selected each team's most valuable player from 2023, in which Lawrence was the easy choice for the Giants.

"The 26-year-old has established himself as one of the top defensive tackles in the league," wrote Sullivan. "This is the second year in a row that Lawrence has been named to the Pro Bowl while also getting second-team All-Pro honors. He finished the year with 4.5 sacks, 53 tackles, 21 quarterback hits and two pass breakups. Without a doubt, he was New York's best player in 2023."

The fifth-year lineman recorded 65 total pressures on the season, which topped his previous career-high of 63 set last year. He accomplished this despite missing a game and playing limited snaps in the final five contests.

He finished the season with 4.5 sacks, 21 quarterback hits, seven tackles for loss, and two passes defensed to go with his 53 total tackles (32 solo).

As Sullivan mentioned, Lawrence was named second-team All-Pro in addition to earning a trip to the Pro Bowl, both for the second straight year. He was also named to the NFLPA All-Pro Team, the PFWA All-NFC Team and Pro Football Focus' All-Pro Team.

"He's a really good football player. He's dominant in the interior part of the defense," coach Brian Daboll said in his weekly sit-down with Giants.com before the season finale. "I would say a lot of things set him apart. He's got great size, length, athletic ability, quickness, power and explosion. That's why he's getting recognized, because he's an exceptional football player, but he's an even better person."
