2023 NFL Free Agency Guide: Giants have 21 pending UFAs

The 2022 season is now officially in the rearview mirror.

With the offseason upon us, there are several key dates to circle on the NFL calendar. Here are a few important dates surrounding free agency:

  • March 7: Deadline for clubs to designate Franchise or Transition Players.
  • March 13-15: From 12:00 p.m. ET on Monday, March 13 until 3:59:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 15, clubs are permitted to contact and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become unrestricted free agents upon expiration of their 2022 player contracts at 4:00 p.m. ET on March 15.
  • March 15: The 2023 League Year and Free Agency period begin at 4:00 p.m. ET. The trading period for 2023 also begins at 4:00 p.m. ET, after expiration of all 2022 contracts.

The Giants have 21 pending unrestricted free agents along with one restricted free agent. In the 2023 league year, players with three accrued seasons who have received a qualifying offer become restricted free agents when their contracts expire at the conclusion of the 2022 league year on March 15. Unrestricted free agents have completed four or more accrued seasons. Upon expiration of his 2022 contract, an unrestricted free agent is free to sign with any club with no draft-choice compensation owed to his old club.

If the restricted free agent signs an offer sheet with a new club, his old club can match the offer and retain him because the qualifying offer entitles it to a "right of first refusal" on any offer sheet the player signs. If the old club does not match the offer, it may receive draft-choice compensation depending on the amount of its qualifying offer.

(UPDATE: Giants signed TE Lawrence Cager, G Jack Anderson and WR Isaiah Hodgins, who were set to become an exclusive rights free agents.)

With that said, here is the full list of the Giants' 2023 pending free agents, both unrestricted and restricted.
