East Rutherford, NJ – The New York Giants have selected Coach Craig Cavotta of Columbia High School in Greenbush, NY as the High School Flag Football Coach of the Week for week 10 of the 2025 season.
The High School Flag Football Coach of the Week Award is part of the Giants' continuing effort to support local high school flag football programs. Each week during the high school girls flag football season, the Giants will select one area high school head coach as the Coach of the Week winner. The selection is based on the coach's continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and contributing overall to their community.
In recognition of Coach Cavotta's selection as Coach of the Week, a $2,000 check from The Giants Foundation will be given to the Columbia High School girls flag football program. Coach Cavotta will also receive a certificate of recognition signed by Giants head coach Brian Daboll and will be honored at a recognition ceremony after the season and at a 2025 Giants preseason home game.
Cavotta has led the Blue Devils girls flag football program since its inception back in 2023 and they just captured their second consecutive Section 2 title. Prior to the season, Cavotta and the Blue Devils set a goal to make it back to the state tournament where they fell to the 2024 NYSPHSAA Champion Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK. After a 15-2 start to the season, Cavotta and his team are doing just that as they are heading back to the state semifinals in Cortland, NY where they will once again compete for a NYSPHSAA State Championship.
In addition to serving as the head girls flag football coach, Cavotta is a special education teacher at Columbia High School. Cavotta was previously the head coach for the Columbia and Mechanicville High School's varsity boys football teams. In 2024, Coach Cavotta was named as Section 2's Girls Flag Football Coach of the Year by Times Union.
"It is very exciting and deserving that Coach Cavotta has been selected as the Coach of the Week for High School Flag. When you talk about Coach Cavotta, you're not just talking about a good coach, you're talking about someone who is an exceptional leader who truly elevates everyone around him. Coach Cavotta has been the driving force behind this program, building it from the ground up these past two years along with his two assistant coaches. During this time, he has displayed a level of dedication and commitment that is rare to see. It is clear that he holds his players to high standards, but more importantly, he inspires the players to not only strive to meet expectations but to take ownership in them. The buy-in he has created isn't just about showing up; it's about believing the vision, trusting the process and putting in the work each and every day. Coach Cavotta doesn't just teach the game; he teaches discipline, teamwork, and what it means to truly invest in something bigger than yourself. Through this approach, the team has experienced great success in their first two seasons. We are incredibly fortunate to have Coach Cavotta on our sidelines leading the way," said Ryan Jones, Director of Health, Physical Education & Athletics for Columbia High School.
