Instant Analysis: Giants defeat Cowboys, 34-17

GIANTS-WIN-COWBOYS

AT A GLANCE

Rookie Jaxson Dart had a career-high 110.2 passer rating, Tyrone Tracy Jr. posted a personal-best 159 yards from scrimmage, and linebacker Bobby Okereke forced multiple turnovers en route to a 34-17 victory over the Cowboys. The Giants end the 2025 season with back-to-back wins for a 4-13 record.

UP NEXT

The Giants enter another important offseason, one that includes a head coach search and the No. 5 draft pick.

2026 NFL Draft Order (currently according to NFL Research)

  1. Las Vegas Raiders
  2. New York Jets
  3. Arizona Cardinals
  4. Tennessee Titans
  5. New York Giants

In terms of opponents for 2026, the Giants will face the entire NFC West and AFC South, and same-place finishers from the AFC North (Browns), NFC South (Saints), and NFC North (Lions). That is in addition to the annual home-and-home series with their three NFC East opponents.

The top of the draft order and opponents will officially be locked in Sunday night following the 272nd and final game of the 2025 NFL regular season.

WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT THE OFFENSE

In his 12th and final start as a rookie, Jaxson Dart completed 22 of 32 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns for a career-high 110.2 passer rating. He also ran five times for 32 yards.

Dart's highlight of the day was an impromptu backhand flip to tight end Daniel Bellinger, who caught it and weaved his way through defenders for a 29-yard touchdown to give the Giants a 16-10 halftime lead.

Not to be outdone, running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. scored on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Dart in the third quarter and fellow running back Devin Singletary added to the highlight reel with a successful two-point conversion pass to wide receiver Darius Slayton. Singletary took a direct snap, faked a handoff to Dart going the other way, and scrambled before finding Slayton in the end zone for a 24-10 lead.

Tracy recorded a career-high 159 yards from scrimmage on 18 carries for 103 yards and eight catches for 56 yards and the touchdown. A fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Tracy became the third Giant in franchise history with 1,000 scrimmage yards in each of his first two seasons, joining wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and running back Saquon Barkley.

Dart ends his rookie campaign with 24 total touchdowns, including a franchise-record nine rushing scores. The No. 25 overall draft pick trails only Charlie Conerly (27 in 1948) and Daniel Jones (26 in 2019) for the most total touchdowns in Giants history by a rookie quarterback.

Dart joined Eli Manning (2004) as the only rookie quarterbacks in franchise history to beat the Cowboys.

Singletary punched in his fifth rushing touchdown of the season, his most since also having five in 2022 with the Bills.

After reaching 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in his career, wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson was inactive for the season finale due to a rib injury. Robinson ends his fourth season with 92 catches for 1,014 and four touchdowns. His 92 catches are sixth-most in a single season in franchise history (his 93 catches from a year ago are fifth). Robinson and Odell Beckham Jr. are the only Giants ever to record multiple seasons with at least 90 catches.

Gunner Olszewski made his first start at wide receiver since 2022, when he was a member of the Steelers. He shattered his career highs on Sunday with eight catches for 103 yards. An accomplished return specialist, Olszewski had just 17 catches for 223 yards in his previous 80 career games (four starts).

Rookie Marcus Mbow started at left tackle for the second consecutive game with Andrew Thomas (hamstring) on injured reserve. The fifth-round pick from Purdue finishes his rookie campaign with three starts (including one in Week 9 at right tackle) in 13 games. Austin Schlottmann also lined up at center for John Michael Schmitz, who missed the last two games of the season with a finger injury.

WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT THE DEFENSE

Linebacker Bobby Okereke recorded a takeaway for the second consecutive week, recovering a botched snap by Dak Prescott on the Cowboys' opening drive. The Giants scored a field goal on the ensuing possession for the first points of the game. Okereke picked off Geno Smith last week for the linebacker's first interception since 2023.

Okereke wasn't done there. The Giants' club winner for Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year later intercepted Joe Milton III, who had replaced Prescott in the second half.

Outside linebacker Brian Burns finished his third Pro Bowl season with a career-high 16.5 sacks, tying Jason Pierre-Paul (2011) for fourth in a single season in Giants history.

Burns did not have a sack in the finale, but he did record his 31st quarterback hit of the season. It snapped a tie with Leonard Williams (30 in 2020) for the most by any Giant since the stat began being tracked in 2006.

With one more tackle for loss against the Cowboys, Burns also increased his season total to 22, the most by a Giant since Pierre-Paul had 23 in 2011.

Defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence battled through illness and played "primarily in a third down role," according to interim head coach Mike Kafka.

WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT SPECIAL TEAMS

Cornerback Art Green downed Jamie Gillan's first punt of the game inside the one-yard line.

Kicking in his third NFL game, Ben Sauls made all four of his field goal attempts, including a career-long of 45 yards for the first points of the game. The left-footed rookie finished the season perfect on eight field goal attempts and seven extra points. Sauls' 31 points in his first three career games are the most by a Giants kicker since 1970.

KaVontae Turpin returned a Gillan kickoff 84 yards late in the first quarter, setting up a 14-yard touchdown run by Jaydon Blue two plays later as Dallas retook the lead 10-6 at the time.
