Instant Analysis: Giants defeat Titans, 12-7

GIANTS-WIN-TITANS

AT A GLANCE

Undrafted rookie Dominic Zvada accounted for all Giants scoring with four field goals and safety JevĂłn Holland sealed a 12-7 victory over the Titans with an interception in the end zone with 14 seconds remaining. The Giants improved to 2-1 on the season after winning their first game since Jaxson Dart suffered a season-ending knee injury.

UP NEXT

The Giants will remain home in Week 4 and host the Arizona Cardinals, who were 1-1 heading into their late Sunday afternoon game against the 49ers. John Harbaugh is the seventh head coach in Giants history – first since Tom Coughlin in 2004 – to start 2-0 at home in his first season with the franchise.

WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT THE OFFENSE

The news of the week centered on Dart's knee injury, which will cause him to miss the rest of the regular season at least. The second-year quarterback suffered the injury when he was hit by two Rams defenders on the opening drive of the Giants' 28-6 loss on Monday night at SoFi Stadium.

Jameis Winston made his 90th career start on Sunday. Jake Haener was signed to the active roster from the practice squad and served as the backup.

Winston completed 14 of 22 passes for 118 yards while being sacked three times. Winston also had a 15-yard scramble.

Cam Skattebo sparked the Giants' first scoring drive with a career-long 30-yard reception on third-and-seven. It eventually led to a 39-yard field goal by Zvada for the first points of the game.

In wet and windy conditions, the Giants ran the ball 33 times compared to 22 pass attempts. Skattebo led the way with 20 carries (second-most of his career) for 60 yards. Najee Harris also made his biggest impact yet with the Giants, rushing nine times for 52 yards.

Overall, the Giants ran for 139 yards despite their longest carry going for just 15 yards.

Running back Devin Singletary was inactive for the first time this season. The veteran had played the third-most snaps in the running back room through two weeks, trailing Skattebo and fullback Patrick Ricard.

WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT THE DEFENSE

The Giants forced a three-and-out on the Titans' first five possessions. It was the Giants' longest such streak in any game since at least 1991. The Giants also forced five consecutive three-and-out possessions in 2006 vs. Tampa Bay, 2003 at New England, and 2001 at Washington.

Tennessee did not record a first down until 1:18 left in the first half. It was the fourth time the Giants held their opponent to one first down or fewer in any half since 1991.

The Titans were unsuccessful on their first six third-down attempts. They did not convert a third down until 4:13 remaining in the third quarter.

Rookie linebacker Arvell Reese, the fifth overall draft choice, led the team with 12 tackles (eight solo). He tied the Giants' rookie record since total defensive tackles were officially tracked in 1994.

Cornerback Deonte Banks missed his second consecutive game with a calf injury, and rookie Colton Hood once again started in his place. Safety Tyler Nubin (calf) was also inactive, which led to Ar'Darius Washington making his first start as a Giant.

Brian Burns has yet to miss a game as a member of the Giants. The three-time Pro Bowl selection suited up after he missed practice all week due to an ankle injury, which he sustained Monday night against the Rams. Burns did not start the game as Kayvon Thibodeaux did in his place. Burns, however, left with 11:02 remaining in the game due to a knee injury.

The Titans broke the shutout bid with a four-yard touchdown pass from Cam Ward to former Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson, cutting Tennessee's deficit to 12-7 with 5:35 remaining in the fourth quarter.

JevĂłn Holland sealed the victory with an interception in the end zone with 14 seconds remaining. The safety now has an interception in three consecutive games to start the season.

WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT SPECIAL TEAMS

Linebacker Zaire Barnes, moments after he stood at midfield for the coin toss as one of three gameday captains, forced Chimere Dike to fumble on the opening kickoff. Linebacker Malik Harrison recovered the fumble. It was the first time the Giants recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff since Week 2 of the 2022 season (Dane Belton recovered the fumble forced by Carter Coughlin).

Dominic Zvada accounted for all 12 points on four fields goals with a long of 39 yards. Including two last week, the undrafted rookie has made all six attempts to start his career.

Jordan Stout is the first Giant ever to have multiple punts of 70 yards or more in the same season, let alone in back-to-back games. The 2025 All-Pro booted a 74-yarder in the second quarter on Sunday, six days after he had a 78-yarder against the Rams.
