Jaxson Dart nominated again for Pepsi Rookie of the Week

JAXSON-DART-ROOKIE-OF-THE-WEEK-9

Days turn into weeks. Weeks turn into months. Months turn into potential season awards.

Jaxson Dart, who set the single-season franchise record of five games with at least one passing and one rushing touchdown, has once again been nominated for Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week. The 25th overall pick has been nominated for the award after each of his six starts.

Dart was recently named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for October, becoming the fifth different Giant to win the award since 2002.

In four October games, Dart ranked first among NFL rookies in total touchdowns (10), passing touchdowns (seven) and passer rating (90.0). His three rushing touchdowns, meanwhile, are tied for first.

Ravens linebacker Teddye Buchanan won the award on the defensive side.

Dart is the first Giant to be named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month since wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. won back-to-back awards in November and December of 2014. Beckham, the 12th overall pick that season, went on to be voted the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. It was the first time a Giants player won the yearly award since Lawrence Taylor did it on the defensive side of the ball in 1981. Saquon Barkley did it on offense again for the Giants in 2018.

The other Giants players to be named NFL Rookie of the Month are wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (October of 2009), safety Gibril Wilson (October of 2004), and tight end Jeremy Shockey (November and December of 2002).

Dart kicked off November by completing 24 of 33 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 34-24 loss to the 49ers. He also led the team with 56 rushing yards on eight attempts, including a six-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

While setting the aforementioned franchise record, he also became the third NFL rookie all-time to have a rushing and passing touchdown in five games. The others are Cam Newton (eight in 2011) and Justin Herbert (five in 2020). Both players went on to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The Giants also played their first game without running back Cam Skattebo, who underwent successful surgery on his dislocated ankle. The fourth-round pick led all NFL rookies in yards from scrimmage and touchdowns until the season-ending injury. He had been nominated for Pepsi Rookie of the Week three times.

Fans can vote for Dart at nfl.com/rookies and on the NFL Mobile app through Thursday at 11 a.m. ET to determine who will bring home the Rookie of the Week championship belt for Week 8. The winner will be announced Thursday on NFL.com.

After the regular season, six players will be nominated for Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Year honors.
