1) Amukamara grabs first INT. Coming off a franchise record 621 yards the previous week, the 49ers offense was still predicated on not turning the ball over. Alex Smith had thrown just one interception in the first five weeks of the season, following a 2011 campaign in which he had five all year.
However, Amukamara, making his third consecutive start, intercepted Smith on the 49ers' first play of the second quarter. There would be more to come as the takeaway led to the Giants' first touchdown on the following drive.
2) Hixon's deep catch. After Amukamara's interception, the Giants knew it was time to capitalize after punting on their first two offensive possessions. On third-and-6 on the their own 37, that's when Eli Manning found Domenik Hixon down the right side for a 39-yard gain. That brought the Giants into 49ers territory, and four plays later, Victor Cruz caught a six-yard pass in the end zone for Manning's only passing touchdown of the day.
3) JPP breaks through. Frustrated in recent weeks, Jason Pierre-Paul and the defensive ends had enough. Entering the game, Pierre-Paul had just 1.5 sacks, Osi Umenyiora had 2.0, and Justin Tuck had none. Pierre-Paul changed that midway through the second quarter and sacked Smith for a loss of nine yards on third down. It was the first of Pierre-Paul's two sacks on the day and part of six the Giants had as a team.
4) Wilson nearly takes it to the house. A blocked field goal and a pedestrian offensive output against an elite defensive opponent had the Giants in need of a spark. David Wilson gave that to them on the opening kickoff of the second half, and broke away for a 66-yard return that gave the ball to the offense at the San Francisco 32-yard line. Seven plays later, Ahmad Bradshaw leaped into the end zone for a one-yard touchdown to give the Giants a 17-3 lead.
5) Rolle was due. Entering the game, Antrel Rolle had 15 career interceptions, only three of which have come in his tenure with the Giants. Rolle, who joined the team in 2010, was itching to grab one on Sunday and instead came up with two.
Separated by 2:17 off the clock in the third quarter, he returned them for a combined 44 yards as both led to Lawrence Tynes field goals. The second one gave the Giants a 20-point lead with 6:13 left in the quarter en route to a 26-3 victory.
