The Giants started three different quarterbacks in the first half of the season, but there was only one Malik Nabers.
And he has been more than enough for the team currently standing in first place in the NFC East.
Nabers, who led the NFL in receiving yards throughout October, has been named NFC Offensive Player of the Month. He is the first Giants player to win the award on his side of the ball since quarterback Eli Manning in November of 2008. Furthermore, he is the franchise's first wide receiver to win it since monthly awards were initially handed out in 1986.
The defensive honor has been achieved a little more recently.
A month ago, safety Jevón Holland was named the conference's top defensive player for September.
In four October games, Nabers totaled 36 receptions for 509 yards (14.1 yards per catch) and two touchdowns.
His 36 catches were second-most in the NFL in Weeks 4-7, while his eight receptions of 25+ yards and 22 first downs via the pass led the league.
Nabers recorded four straight games of 100+ receiving yards, tied for the longest active streak in the NFL. It matches the second-longest streak in Giants history. Odell Beckham Jr. eclipsed 100 yards in four consecutive games in 2014, and then six straight outings in 2015. Nabers is the only player in the NFL this season with 500+ receiving yards and 35+ receptions in a four-game span.
For the season, Nabers ranks seventh in catches (48), ninth in receiving yards (605) and third in receptions of 25+ yards (eight). He has done so while catching passes from Jaxson Dart, Jameis Winston and now J.J. McCarthy. Nevertheless, Nabers found chemistry with all three through one simple formula.
"Get open, just get open," Nabers said recently. "They're going to find you, and they know who their guys are. And when you talk to them, just give motivation to them. Tell them, I know you're just coming in; you don't know me really. You don't know a lot of us, but just know on certain plays, just give me an opportunity. … Some plays it might look like the play is not to be made, and we're going to make those plays. So just trust us and we're going to get open for you."
The month of October also marked a full year since Nabers suffered a season-ending knee injury. It spoiled an encore to his rookie season, which included a franchise-record 109 receptions.
"I got a lot more left," he said. "I got a lot more ahead of me that I see in myself."
Nabers and the 4-2-1 Giants return to action on Sunday in Philadelphia as they look to extend their lead in the NFC East.
