Practice Report (5/30): Notes from Friday's OTA

ZACH-PASCAL-BOBS

The Giants hosted their third OTA at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center on Friday afternoon. It was sunny with temperatures in the 70s as the team practiced for nearly two hours.

* After working on their tight red zone (inside the ten-yard line) plays on Wednesday, the Giants focused on their high red zone (between the 10-20-yard lines) offense and defense on Friday. The practice started with 7-on-7 drills with the offense focusing on passes short of the end zone. Russell Wilson did connect with Wan'Dale Robinson a nice slant during this early drill.

* Practice shifted into teamwork, where Paulson Adebo made the play of practice, leaping and high-pointing a pass intended for Jalin Hyatt to grab his first interception of the spring. The defense continued to get its hands on the football throughout practice. Bobby Okereke knocked down a pass in the middle of the field. Cor'Dale Flott played good defense to prevent a completion to Lil'Jordan Humphrey.

* Jaxson Dart completed two passes for touchdowns, his first on a double move to Beaux Collins and his second to Lil'Jordan Humphrey. Dart also showed his speed on a couple of runs carrying the ball outside the pocket.

* The team then moved into tight red zone for a competitive period with the playcallers sending in plays for the offense and defense with a finite amount of time and plays to score or prevent a touchdown. Russell Wilson connected with Zach Pascal in the end zone for a score. Pascal had a strong practice, also catching a touchdown later from Wilson against the starting secondary. Tre Hawkins made a nice play on a back-shoulder throw to Humphrey to prevent a score.

* Cornerback Art Green took over with the next group, knocking away two passes and preventing a catch on a third. Chauncey Gholston forced a holding penalty on a run and got into the backfield for what would have been a sack. Rookie 7th round pick Korie Black stayed in good position on an outside run to prevent a touchdown. Raheem Layne also made a couple good plays, including breaking up a pass intended for undrafted rookie tight end Jermaine Terry II. He would knock down another pass in the next period. Only the Giants first team offense got into the end zone during this competitive period.

* Linebacker Chris Board knocked away a pass when the team went back into high red zone matchups.

* I would expect the team to do more practicing between the 20's next week as the players become acclimated to playing football again. I'm anxious to see how this secondary matches up against the wide receivers with more room to operate.
