Presser Points: Brian Daboll talks postgame (plus Joe Schoen in the booth)

BRIAN-DABOLL-PRESSER-POINTS

Shortly after their 34-25 victory over the Bills, coach Brian Daboll took the podium to break down the preseason opener. Here's what you need to know:

📰 On Jaxson Dart's debut: "About what I thought he would do. Efficient. Effective. Aggressive. Confident in the pocket."

📰 There are things Dart "could be better at" but they missed some opportunities on third downs, including drops, that would have made the day even better for the offense. "But he's a confident young player. He's improved since he's been here. Still got a long way to go, but I enjoy working with him. I like his demeanor on the sideline. He sees the game well."

📰 What they saw at Ole Miss showed up today. "He did that for a long time there. He's tough. Good moxie. He's got toughness. He's got leadership."

📰 The Giants threw the ball 51 times and didn't give up a sack. "So, credit the offensive line, first and foremost."

📰 This wasn't Russell Wilson's "first rodeo." It was good for him to start and get into a rhythm. All four quarterbacks led their units on scoring drives in Buffalo.

📰 Daboll noted drops, too many false starts, and giving up "far too many" big plays on defense as areas to circle.

📰 Dart will "stand in there and take one now" but he has "good feel and good athleticism if he has to run."

📰 The "packed house" in Buffalo was a "great first environment" for Dart to make his NFL debut. "We practiced with a lot of noise."

📰 The Giants played their healthy starters because it was best for the team. "I thought we needed that. We'll do it again. We're going to play in the preseason. People that are able to play are going to play, and if they're not able to play or a doctor or a trainer says it would be smart to hold him out, we'll hold him out. But other than that, we're going to play."

📰 Dart "gives guys chances down the field." He doesn't throw the ball out of bounds most of the time. The Giants expect all their quarterbacks to give their receivers opportunities in 1-on-1 situations.

📰 Cornerback Deonte Banks, who is in the middle of a competition with Cor'Dale Flott to play opposite Paulson Adebo, saw extensive action. "Flott wasn't here. I thought [Banks] could use some work, so I played him as much as I wanted to play him."

📰 The Giants have a big week of practice coming up with two joint sessions against the Jets before their next preseason matchup. "I expect good, competitive practices with that group. Try to take another step. Still a way to go, but it beats the alternative."

📰 There weren't many snaps for rookie Abdul Carter and the starters, which makes the joint practices that much more important. "Keep on building with him."

📰 It's one preseason game. "There's some good stuff and there's a lot of things that we need to correct."

📰 The Giants came away from the game with no immediate injuries to report.

Joe Schoen joined Bob Papa and Carl Banks in the broadcast booth to kick off the second half. Here are takeaways from the general manager:

📰 On Carter and Dart: "I thought both of those guys did a good job. I saw Abdul, he looks like he got a couple pressures. I'll have to go back and see the film afterwards. And then Jaxson did a good job operating the offense, and I was glad he was able to get the two-minute drill in there in the end. I'm happy with where both of those guys are."

📰 On Wilson: "Being a pro and a vet that's been doing it for a long time, you can feel that at practice, you can feel that out there today. The ball just comes out quick. There aren't any defenses that he hasn't seen before. He's got very good command of the offense, and I feel like you felt that today."

📰 On rookie fifth-round pick Marcus Mbow: "We were talking at halftime like it's been kind of quiet over there on the right side. It seems like Mbow is doing a good job. We'll have to watch the film, but he's done a good job thus far. When we don't recognize them, you don't hear their name, that's typically a good thing at the tackle position."

📰 On playing everyone healthy in the preseason: "We've got to be ready to play when September comes."

📰 On Dart and Carter embracing the NFL stage: "It definitely didn't seem too big for them. And that's what it seemed like this spring, in training camp, each day they're continuing to get better. You've never felt like it was too big for either of those guys."
